Re: Munich
Love Munich!! Great city, essentially there is one main pedestrianised street, that takes you to the very impressive Gothic town hall, there are several beer halls knocling out stein's of beautiful Paulinar beer. Nip in one and take in some of the most delicous beer in the world. I will check out where we went and post back later. You will have a great time.

Near the airport..... Not much at all mate, very impressive airport though.Train into city is about 30 mins, so if your stay isn't that long you probably wouldn't get into town.Blackrod wrote:I'd also be interested as going via there. Re: Munich
I live in Munich so have a few ideas, as it should be great weather, best find a beer garten - there are loads, maybe the 2 (of 4) in the Englischergarten - Seehaus or Chinese Tower (close to U-Bahn Münchner Freiheit) , or the Augustiner one near Hackerbrücke (supposedly the best beer in Munich)
I'm well informed by a Bavarian expert that the best beer in the city is at the Nuernberger Bratwurst Gloeckl am Dom, near Marienplatz,
For Blackrod , if you've got a few hours to kill near the Airport, Freising isn't far away- a nice historic small town.
Have a great stay UTC

Re: Munich
If you have time Andechs is also worth a visit, just a short train ride away and the fare is covered by the local one day travel ticket (least it was when we went).
Small town with a lake and a few shops and cafe bars etc but the main attraction is the
monastry on a hill with a brewery, excellent beers, a food hall and open air eating/drinking areas with fantastic views over the countryside and rolling hills.

Re: Munich
Great info, thanks for that! Yes, definitely looking for a few beer spots. We're planning on going to English Garden so I'll be sure to check one of those out. I'll also take a look at the Nuernberger Bratwurst Gloeckl am Dom - can't say no to the best beer in the city! Thanks againClaretkraut wrote:I live in Munich so have a few ideas, as it should be great weather, best find a beer garten - there are loads, maybe the 2 (of 4) in the Englischergarten - Seehaus or Chinese Tower (close to U-Bahn Münchner Freiheit) , or the Augustiner one near Hackerbrücke (supposedly the best beer in Munich)

Re: Munich
That's the one hofbrauhaus, it's class Augustine and Paulinar are great beers. The purity law on bavarian beers makes it illegal to put any chemicals in them. They have tinty bubbles in which some locals told us stops you getting a hangover. We drunk lots, and werent even worse for wear in the morning. We then went to watch Bayern v Eintract Frankfurt, great experience. We are planning on going back for Oktoberfest next year!

Re: Munich
I don't think we'll have time for that day trip as we've already booked a day trip to Salzburg. However, I've just Googled it and it looks very nice. I'll keep it in mind in case plans change, thanksVintage Claret wrote:If you have time Andechs is also worth a visit, just a short train ride away and the fare is covered by the local one day travel ticket (least it was when we went).

Re: Munich
The BMW museum is well worth a visit in the north of the city next to the old olympic park, you can get a tube/metro up there, really good place for a few hours and you can tour the Olympic park if you want as well.
A real surprise was how good the Deutches museum was next to the river, would definitely recommend that.

Re: Munich
Another shout here for the Englischergarten - where you can enjoy a bite to eat and a beer.
Dachau isn't far away and you can do it on your own, using public transport, or as part of a tour.

Re: Munich
If you don't have time for another day trip then definitely do the 3rd reich tour. You can book it from radius tours who have a booth inside the Hauptbanhof rail station. you get to see all the locations where the Nazi party came to power
Dachau is a must. Don't do a guided tour though, they rush you round at 100mph and you miss most of it. Get the Nuremberg train and Dachau is the first stop. There's dedicated shuttle buses once you get off the train
There's a great "beer cellar" restaurant/bar directly under the glockenspiel clock at the town hall
