Did very well. I was pleasantly surprised.

Wouldn't be a shock if he ends up playing more centrally (maybe in a midfield three) rather than as a winger...but that's quite a big call based on just 70 minutes of football.

Well done to him though!

What a night for him. Hope we can give him the chance to develop in terms of game time and support.

Well done to every fan that clapped him off the pitch, well done to who ever started to sing “he is one of our own” he must be absolutely buzzing tonight.

Well done SD, delighted we brought a player through rather than keep Walters for another 6months. Nothing against Walters but bringing a player through makes me very happy.

I've watched Dwight McNeil come through the youth and under-23 teams and have always been impressed with him. Last season, despite being young enough to play in the youth team he was shifted up to the u23s and did really well.

I had absolutely no fear that he would be up to it tonight because the ability is there, the strength is there and he always looks a confident player. But, having said all that, it was an absolutely terrific debut from him. It was right for him to come off when he did, he looked dead on his feet, but that was a full debut to be proud of.

Did he play in the youth cup game against norwich? Almost certain it was him. and if it was, on a very poor night he stood out a mile.

I said tonight to my partner in crime that I thought that he had a great game.

He tired which he obviously would have done but a brilliant debut and what a stage to make it on.

Good job United didn't think that way about Giggs, Scholes, Nevilles, Butt, Beckham and Rashford ! Showed more tonight than some of our players have shown in a long time.

One thing we lost when Arfield left is a good deal of competition in the midfield, Scotty was always fit and ready to replace someone.

Hopefully with Vydra close to fitness and with young lad chomping at the bit it will keep other on their toes.

Very much like Trevor Steven as anyone in the way he moves around a pitch and I was once told by someone in football that Steven reminded him of Johann Cruyff. It doesn't make McNeil as good as Steven any more so than it made Steven as good as Cruyff.

I don't see the Beckham/McNeil link but I think the point being made was style of play.

A huge positive from last night. Hopefully he can get in and around the match day squad in the Premier League, particularly in light of our injury situation in the wide positions. His delivery was consistently excellent.

Noticed he took a few very assured touches against Aberdeen. Was good to see that confidence on show again last night.
Let’s hope he continues along this road. His set piece deliveries could be a very big plus for us.

He's got to be making the bench regularly now, along with Vydra. It'll certainly give us more options from the bench. 2 players who I'm sure could change a game in our favour.

Now to the chap in the JHU Row F seat fifty or sixty something, your very loud input as to how bad McNeil was and your comments were not shared by the vast majority of Claret fans thank goodness you are not one of the season ticket holders who normally sit in that area. Block 3 ?

There was one dick sat there who slated him whole game and even said "bloody rubbish McNeil" as he was about to be subbed, he then moved on to telling people how Vydra is the expensive expensive version of Ian Moore. Every club has a share of whoppers but we seem to have a larger share than most.

Well said! I thiught about that last night (I wasn't at TM but followed the game on BBC and UTC). Yes, credit to all the fans you clapped him off the pitch. I think we're all desperate to see one of our lads playing in the first team.

But we need to be patient and not moan when he makes mistakes because he will make them. Fans (in general not just ours) can help young players but they can also harm them.

I thought it was great that lads on our Bench all stood up and applauded as he came off. Must be a real confidence booster on top of that performance

Tarkowski is a centre half, Siddo. This lad is a midfielder. Just saying he looks to have the attributes to play centrally. Good to see you have said how well he did though.....

That was a bit of an eye-opener for him, wanted a split second too long, lost possession and it's nearly a goal for them a few seconds later. That's first team football for you. Didn't let it bother him though, seems happy to try stuff too rather than just not make a mistake.

This Messageboard could be a fair indication of the amount of Whoppers our fanbase sadly includes. There’s more Whoppers here than at your average a Burger King.

Hard to avoid getting carried away when you see a kid make a first start that is that good. Sure, he was caught a bit early on (and helped afterwards by Hendrick both giving him a high five, and going out of his way to make sure he got a touch of the ball again right afterwards), but even that was in trying to get the ball down and play. To see pin-point crosses, skimming, whipped set plays, cross field balls and beautifully weighted reverse passes all within the next half hour was pretty unexpected and a pleasure to watch.

He'll have tougher assignments - whilst last nght's encounter was played at a brisk tempo, Olympiakos themselves didn't close us down like a Premier League team would, so he had a bit more time - and we need to avoid getting carried away. I'd be amazed if he starts on Sunday because apart from the fact last night will have taken far more out of him than anyone else on the pitch, Sunday will be a very different game and he's still got loads to learn - particularly defensively, where he looked a bit lightweight when tracking back towards his own goal. he'll fill out and get stronger, too.

But whilst trying to keep expectations realistic, he's obviously got serious talent. Can't remember a player at Burnley in years who moves around the first with the sort of languid, upright grace he clearly has. It tends to be a hallmark of class. Fingers crossed he can maintain his development.

I also noticed that Sean Dyche congratulated him as he came off and shook his hand - something that SD does not normally do with subbed players.

I thought he looked like he was ready to tart being introduced to me. Think a definite candidate for the bench; to bring on when the games are going our way to start. I'd give him a few runs out in the cup competitions (assuming there are a few this year). Think he could be pushing for starts by the end of the season - or even this if we want to throw a curve-ball into the line up occasionally. Really enjoyed seeing one of our kids stand out last night in a very good team display. Thought he looked comfortable both supporting on the wing and in the centre.
