If we lose today...
can we please not have the usual hysterical overreaction that we have become accustomed to on here.
Regardless of the indifferent start both sides have made to the new season, it's Manchester United for crying out loud!
We'd all love us to win, but if we don't let's have some context please!
If we continue to struggle after the International break, then perhaps fingers can be pointed, but until then, let's enjoy today, regardless of the result, and be pleased we're playing at the same level, as a team who are still one of the biggest in the entire world!

Re: If we lose today...
I guess it depends how we play.....
If we play terribly then I think criticism is completely fair, but I understand your point, there are a lot of over reactions to the early season results.

I suspect the board will start to draw up a list of managerial candidates.

We could finish in the bottom 3 and I’d imagine there would only be around 10% of Burnley fans that wanted Dyche out.

Our season will not be defined if we lose today. Todayd a free hit.
It would be bloody lovely if we beat them. But if we dont we will be measured on results in the coming weeks against cardiff, huddersfield and wolves.

Re: If we lose today...
If we lose today then press reset, and the season restarts on 16th September away at Wolves, hopefully with the likes of Brady available plus Vydra and McNeil bedding in nicely.
Today is all about José as far as the media are concerned.

I we lose today , can everyone stop having an opinion, or better still don’t read the messageboard
Anyway we are going to win so it’s all irrelevant

Re: If we lose today...
I have a weird feeling we’re going to win today with style.
The worries sink in because last season we were dealing with all the teams “around us” and games against the big sides really were free hits and were bonus points.
So far this year we’ve struggled against the “weaker” sides which starts putting more pressure on games like today which we’re supposed to lose but now we need to use it to kick start our season when it should have been Watford/Saints where we went at teams and should have got the wins.
Today is a free hit still - but a free hit with the added pressure of not having won yet.

Re: If we lose today...
Today isn’t a free hit when we’ve dropped points to Fulham, Southampton and Watford. Yes were not expected to win but somewhere along the line we’ll have to pick up points against the top teams.

Re: If we lose today...
It the overall context of this game it is clearly a good time to play United. All the focus is on Jose and whether he'll a have nervous breakdown during or straight after the game. We have to try and take every little bit of help we can against the big teams. This gives us a very small step up but, as the OP says, it's still Man Utd we are playing and they have some fair handy players.
Anyway, I'm going to enjoy today and hopefully cheer our boys on to getting something out the game! Come on Clarets!!

Re: If we lose today...
Whatever isn't going right at present will be sorted during the international break.
It's a pity, in one respect, that we have key players in some squads. SD could do with them all together.
Anyhow, football is to be enjoyed, not worried about, so be happy!

Think they will run there nuts off today and perform better than the previous league games. It may not produce any points at all but I would rather have it like this, rather than a team full of expensive foreign players.we still have a team we can all relate to the Burnley way.

Re: If we lose today...
If we lose today it will be the 1,043rd time they have lost a league match since I first watched the Clarets, however, if we win, it will be the 1,201st league win during that same period ----here's hoping! We are definitley due a win against them.

Still, I hope you can pick up a stream in ward 4 at Broadmoor, then you'll be able to see the game.

Re: If we lose today...
Correct. We could do with picking up at least a point. A free hit is only when you've made up enough points beforehand. Not when you're sat in the bottom 3.Dyched wrote:Today isn’t a free hit when we’ve dropped points to Fulham, Southampton and Watford. Re: If we lose today...
That's what I mean. I don't follow or like cricket at all, but I'm sure it's a term used which suggests something can be done with less of an impact if it goes wrong. So similar to how people are using it on here - that if we lose, it's not as bad as it could be.tim_noone wrote:I was thinking more a gimmick of the betting world...seeing it a lot on this thred.

Remember it's Man United???
WTF, they are sh1t, we shouldn't be remembering anything.
We are Burnley, we should fear no team at the Turf, regardless of past or present reputation!

Re: If we lose today...
Thursdays performance was reminiscent of stirring ones last season.
Liverpool, Man City & even Arsenal.
If we can get back to those it will be a great game.
However, for some reason whenever Man U turn up we done seem to perform as well. Last season a prime example.

No we won't.
Our one and only target in the Premier League is to stay in it, for that we don't need to beat any top six sides, just pick up points against all the others and finish a place above the bottom three.
