" Red Card " ... FIFA corruption book ..

Post by Clarets4me » Sun Jul 29, 2018 9:57 pm

Just finished reading this excellent book on how many of the FIFA " Top Brass " were brought to book over the corruption claims...

Long story short ... at one point one of CONCACAF's ( FIFA's ruling body for North/Central America/Carribean ) Vice Presidents was slighted by the corrupt President, Jack Warner and hired lawyers. They in turn hired a Corporate Investigations firm from Miami, to look into the activities of Chuck Blazer, Head of US Soccer ( now dec'd ). The lead investigator was Simon Strong, an Englishman, based in Miami who'd previously spent 20+ years working in Central & South America as a journalist.

All very interesting, I hear you cry, but on Page 83, it states " Strong was also a soccer fan, having grown up supporting Burnley Football Club ! "

His Linkedin page states he went to Exeter University, Private school in Connecticut and Eton College !! Journo at the BBC & Independent in early 1990's ... we get everywhere !! ( Unless it's a typo of course, and they mean Barnsley ) :)

Pleased you spotted this! Burnley is correct! I was a major fan of Ralph Coates because he was a left winger like me (at least I think he was on the left! These days, Tom Heaton's my man. And of course somebody else whose name might just start with an S.

Glad to see Tom back in the line-up today! He brings us good luck....... makes a fantastic captain
