Steve just try a different pub every week until you find one you like.

There must be 40 pubs in walking distance to the Turf.

Hopefully soon then, looks an absolute eyesore. Would probably be easier to attract someone if they made a start on the work.

Depends what you like from a pub?

I go the Queen Vic at the moment. Not a traditional boozer but does a cracking pint of Sam Miguel. Not cheap for the area at £4.20 either.

110 club does great beer and so do the miners but if you put up what your after someone will advise. The better ones will be busy though.

Help my withering brain! We would always go to a pub about a 15 min walk from the Turf on the road up towards Towneley Hall. As we left the Turf (usually shaking our heads :? ) it would be on the right hand side as you walked up Tod Road. Great beer, one or two away fans for a quick chat and excellent road side parking for a quick post-game escape.

p.s. THE WOODMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just read through the Punch dossier for prospective new landlords. They're wanting to base the business model of the re-opened pub almost entirely on selling Fosters and Carling. They've made room for a few ales though - Worthington Cream Flow and John Smiths Extra Smooth.

They don't plan on having any cask beer.

Personally I think that's a very flawed business model for a pub in such an excellent location. It's tragic really - that pub should be something Burnley (the town and the football club) can be proud of.

I think they will struggle to find a suitable candidate landlord unless they change their plans.

If that’s the case I hope it fails. They’ll probably charge top prices too. All those ‘beers’ mentioned are dishwater.

That's how I've interpreted it. The info is public.

https://www.starpubs.co.uk/pubs/park-view-burnley" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They're looking for a minimum investment of £60k+ (which seems fair enough) but they are also expecting and calculating on large increases in sales whilst following a business model (basing sales on keg lagers) which seems strikingly similar to the one that has brought the pub to collapse in the recent past.

Shame that in an era of really great and varied beer (including stuff brewed locally) that they're going down that route

Yep, Star Pubs is Heineken. (Although Fosters and John Smiths are both Heineken I think.)

Craven Heifer, Harle Syke.

Always 3 or 4 good cask ales on and £5 for Hafners pie n peas and return transport to and from the Turf on match days.

As an aside, went in the recently re-opened Cross Keys after the match on Saturday to watch the Man Yoo v Toon game, excellent pint of Copper Dragon 'Golden Pippin' and a pint of Carling and change from a fiver.

Always found the Harle Syke pubs a bit unwelcoming if your not from round them there parts. The last time I went in the Commy all that was missing was the banjo player.

Apart from an occasional visit to The Sun Inn don't really frequent any of the other Harle Syke pubs so wouldn't know.
Always a warm welcome at The Craven though :-)

I’ e Never been on a match day, it would be out of the way for me. But the Crooked Billet in Worsthorne has great beer and a bus to and from it on match days.

Thornton Arms has decent beer as well and an easy walk down the hill.
