On Jools Holland tonight - possibly the worst thing I've ever seen.

Say hello wave goodbye is top class! Watched him at a festival a couple of years back and he was excellent.

Yes good song Pearcey, he'll need more than that.

I was a regular attendee of the Leeds Warehouse in the 80's - he was the cloakroom attendant.

Should have done us all a favour and stayed there. A man with no discernible talent.

Absolutely Doug. Terrible singer.

If anyine likes the song “say hello, wave goodbye”, try David Grays version from the album “white ladder”. A most excellent cover.

Good on him taking a lowly paid job having the odd snotty customer to deal with and finding a bit of stardom through the years and overcoming a serious accident and earn a few millions along the way.talent? Could be debatable...strength of character not in doubt.IMO.

I can't speak for what he's like now but this performance from the early 80s is astoundingly good.

Whilst studying my music degree at university, we had to explore the correlation between Marc Almond and Torch singers. Quite possibly the most boring thing I have had to learn. I find the timbre of his voice irritating and he is always flat when holding long notes so I find listening to him or Soft Cell grating. This is just my opinion though.

Saw him a few years back in Liverpool and he was very good though nowhere near as good as Holly Johnston who held his notes remarkably well , MA usually needs a bit of auto tune and backing these days .Though you can’t hekp hearing his name and thinking of the old ( partly true) urban myth

Slightly off the main subject but - re Jools Holland show.
I am a big live music fan and travel around my area to 20+ gigs per year but latterly find I cant be bothered switching on the box in the corner of my room to watch this show.
I know music tastes are diverse and mine maybe not too mainstream but most of the performers in the past couple of series have left me cold. That didnt used to be the case so either the selection of artists on the show have changed or maybe my music tastes have.

I'm sure I've read he's a Burnley fan... something to do with having a crush on Ralph Coates ;)

Soft Cell's version of Say Hello Wave Goodbye is genius.
Davis Gray's is shockingly awful.
IMHO

Is Marc Almond still singing? Or trying to? I am surprised, but I did like "The Days Of Pearly Spencer"
