Paintings or Prints with Burnley theme
Re: Paintings or Prints with Burnley theme
Thanks, MDWat. I wish I'd known I could have done football stadiums for art, but it wasn't 'allowed.' I know that sounds stupid, but when I left school I went to Burnley College to do an art foundation course in 1980 and there was no picture-making at all, just the lecturers banging a drum about 'creativity.' I think it could have been that Burnley got relegated to the third division at that time and the MOJO had gone. My enthusiasm was lost at a critical time.
Anyway, I just signed in to click 'like' on Duncan Armstrong's great drawing. It's simplified architectonics reminds me of a modernist American painter from the 1930's called Charles Sheeler.

Seeing this topic reminded me that I had a painting/drawing somewhere. I have dug around
and found it.

Not the best reproduction of a quality print I'm afraid.

Clegghall, a lot of my posts are born of absolute exasperation with the world and the way it is run. As a creative I have ideas but as I don't really have a network, I struggle to get those ideas out there. It's frustration PLUS a serious mental health condition to negotiate ON TOP OF all life's troubles.
With respect to the poster that would like an updated picture from the same place, all that vista is more or less covered by trees that have grown in the 30 years since and i don't have a drone camera. A lot of the topography has changed, no Trafalgar flats, more trees, no Thompson Centre etc. my eyesight's gone, too. I can't work small like that any more cos I don't want to use glasses.
I'm presently too stressed out to have another go, but I have an aerial picture from the Burnley Express that I can reference. The picture that I made is something of a composite view, it's condensed and simplified, it doesn't really look like that, as it's more spread out and distant. I've enlarged the background as if seen through a telephoto lens, to make a more expansive vision. You'd actually need to be an Eagle to see Gannow Top like that from Brunshaw hill.
I've slightly cheated on the perspective of the roof of the Bob Lord Stand, to take the viewer pictorially into the background of the picture. It took quite a long time to plan, it's not as sketchy as it looks. I drew quite a few drawings from life up in situ on that patch of ground just before the top row of houses, but now that view is obscured. It was only after looking for a long time that I worked out how to get it to work convincingly as a full representation of the scene but with the necessary editing to condense the information so that it's easy to read as a whole.

All,
I won the painting below which was commissioned by Barry Kilby after the win over Stoke last year and the 'Proudsville' moment. The gaffer decided to auction the painting off for charity which i subsequently won.
I had it signed by the gaffer and I in an attempt to make more money for Barry Kilby's prostrate Charity I am pursuing the idea of having reproduction prints made and possibly Christmas cards for sale through the club shop.
Just wondering if there would be any interest. All profits will go to charity. I have no idea as to the cost of the reproduction prints yet.
