Roy Orbison ... A Black and White night ..

Post by Clarets4me » Fri Mar 15, 2019 10:44 am

Hadn't watched this for a good few years .... absolutely superb, the band is top notch, based on Elvis Presley's TCB band, the male backing singers are Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello & Jackson Browne, and the females are Bonnie Raitt, Jennifer Warnes and KD Lang !!

I've had this dvd for many years and never tire of watching it. I love the James Burton and Bruce Springsteen guitar duo piece especially.

That is truly a brilliant piece of music, so much talent on the stage. The type of concert one can watch multiple times.

Brilliant, not seen that for years and years. He was my mum's favourite.

Is that (the excellent) Dave Edmunds sitting next to George Harrison?

I've not seen the Roy Orbison clip in the OP before. Fantastic that!

It is Dave Edmunds. On the full version Ringo plays drums and the female is Rosanne Cash, Johnny's daughter. The final number is Blue Suede Shoes which goes to several encores and has Carl Perkins crying with emotion at the response from the audience

Cheers for that. I shall look that up. (I do like a bit of Dave Edmunds when I'm in the car. His "best of" is excellent. :))

The full " Black and White night " show lasts just over an hour, first shown in January 1988, and widely available in sections on Youtube, in full for about £3.50, or on good old DVD .....

It used to be quite regular on Sky Arts and being a fan of Roy, Bruce and Elvis Costello I saved the whole show.
