Never felt so confident about a burnley win...which was weird looking back...just the way we'd finished the season and our cup runs, the night at Reading...oh and the Coyle effect.
On paper we were far from the 6th best team in the league that season.....imo

Funny what sticks in your mind . As for me well flew into London and had a meal the night before in Croydon saw a couple of Clarets and said we will win tomorrow , he was kind of taken a back as who was we sort of look on his face .
Match day on the tube my mate said you can't drink on the tube ahhhhhh I had four cans and lashed down the lot in about 30 minutes , my mate said to my wife will he be alright , she just smiled and nodded .
Drained at the end best bit was in the bar close to the tube after the game can't recall what I drank .
The next day on the way home at Gatwick airport when into the bar and a big group of Man Yoooo fans just looked hard not to smile , I think they were off to the Champions league finial in Moscow it mattered not a jot to me .
Just about to board the plane and another Claret walks past the window saw he smiled and gave me the thumbs up , that was the best feeling ................

Woken by my alarm clock at 4.45am. Woke my son up who was 9 at the time and we got ready for the game. I put my Burnley socks on old club crest, lucky Superman undies retro yellow away shirt Jeans and pumps loaded up with 8 cans of Smiths and then off to meet the coach at LHCC with family and friends. As I was locking the front door on our way out I said to my son "well this is it pal" and off we went.
It was the first time I had ever been on football game with my mother who had never been interested but she said she had to be there for my dad who had passed away in 1981 (the man who made me a claret) and my step dad also an avid clarets fan who'd died in 2007. My mother was decked out in Claret and Blue with two claret and blue rosettes one with a picture of my dad in and the other with a picture of my step dad! It felt like they were there with us it was surreal.
Outside the ground I actually literally bumped into Frank Teasdale. I said "can we do it Frank" he paused looked back at me and said "Yes! one nil" and off he went.
I was overcome more with emotion as my team walked out at Wembley than I was when we actually won the game. I will never forget that glorious 13th minute. As Wade rode the first challenge in our half I let out a shout that I must have shouted 50 times that season from my seat in the Jimmy Mac Lower "GO ON WADE" about 5 seconds later a moment of absolute beauty!!

Chanting "There's only one Tevez" at some Sheffield louts in Olympic way after the game. Even the copper on the horse was laughing.
Tears, lots of them.

Tears, lots of them.

Those moments come round so rarely, being able to share them with my Dad and my Brother was and is my abiding memory.
Every Sheffield United fan we met in London afterwards were fantastic. Complimentary, congratulatory and dignified in defeat.
For the enormity of the game, it really was amazing just how little nerves I had. I've been more nervous two nil up against a minnow!

I think there is usually about one game a season where I feel comfortable about the result as the game nears its end. This season was Sunderland at home and in 2008-2009 it was a 5-0 win v Forest.DCWat wrote:Those moments come round so rarely, being able to share them with my Dad and my Brother was and is my abiding memory.

As for Wembley, I recall the name of the bar we were in pre-match was called 'Speakeasy', that our coach arrived in the car park at exactly 11 am and that it was 1am when we got back to Rawtenstall. Wade"s goal, Joey's miss and feeling totally drained in the way home. Great way to go up, not too sure about the other result though.

Had the pleasure of meeting the late Frank Teasdale leaving Wembley.
Special, super day for everyone, especially Frank, what a day for him.
