I know, I just saw that image the other day and posted it up as it was amusing, but thanks for that comment.

He's just appointed a campaign manager...

I think he's going for a 2nd term...

I agree with some of your post - I’m willing to accept I’m predisposed to presuming an idea from Trump is likely to be a bad one, for example (much like I would presume a toddler’s ideas on how to design a spacecraft are likely to be poor). I will also accept that my links weren’t as precise to the point I was making as I would have liked.

However, the bits I’ve quoted above are difficult to accept.

Firstly, what good is arming teachers if they are going to keep their guns in their pocket (or lie on them) in an active shooter situation. Fair enough if they’ve already shot and killed the shooter, but that’s not the scenario I was talking about.

As for the second bit, if you honestly think that killing a deer is as easy, psychologically, as killing another human being, then you need professional help.

Edit to add that saying Trump wants stricter gun control laws than Obama had is very disingenuous (at best). He doesn’t want stricter laws than Obama wanted, but the latter was foiled at every turn by mostly Republican lawmakers.

It's an interesting point about the psychology of killing [if we ignore the gratuitous reference to professional help]. For some people, at least, I reckon that killing a cute little Bambi that's doing no harm to anyone would be harder than killing a monster who's murdering your children. Partly because you could easily, deep down, see the mass murderer as not really human, and partly because by killing the mass murderer you would know you were doing some good. I have no idea if that would be true for me, because I've never been in that position, but theoretically I might find it easier. Assuming I wasn't running screaming into the night, that is.

I reckon if policemen knew there was an armed "good guy" already in school, they would have a fair chance of spotting him before they shot him. His demeanour would be different. That's assuming the police are trained and competent, of course!!!

So the teacher fired a shot in a crowded, small classroom full of kids and didn't hit any of them?

Yeah, love to see him on sniper mode taking out a bad guy from 100 or more feet.

So what are we to make of this. A genuine change of heart, I'm being misunderstood, or changing like the wind?

He's going with the steadily growing popular opinion like all good politicians do.

If he pushed this through the teenagers will remember it in the next election.

Obviously a separate incident from the one Sidney quoted. Do you have a link?

The next thing you'll know is that they will be teaching trench warfare, and actually practicing it in the classroom.

Saw again the war movie to end all war movies, "Patton", again last night. I wonder what he would have thought of Trump.

If you do it again you'd be saying 'again' again again.

Patton was all about the "noble" profession of soldiering. The exact opposite of Trump, who is a modern day populist.

Remember, warfare is only the last resort of politics.
