Don't pay your tv licence you can wind up in jail.

Fact.

As for being stupid. My Mrs has a full length mirror I'll let you borrow it Marty!

Non payment of tv licence leads to a criminal record and jail.

Final score

Ringo McCartney 1. Houseboy 0

The match of the day summarisers said Ringo just had too much common sense and facts in his locker, for the opposition to cope with.

845 845 in prison

Come on you know the words!!!
Oh dear oh dear. There is nothing I like better than someone claiming victory when no victory has been had. It's always the last line of defence for the desperate. No-one has ever been sent to prison for non-payment of TV licence, that is the point in question. And it is an undeniable fact Ringo. Show me a proof that someone has been imprisoned for NON-PAYMENT OF TV LICENCE.
They have used the service.
They refused to pay the fee.
They have been caught using the service without paying.
They have been given the opportunity to pay up.
They have again refused.
They have been taken to court and fined.
They have refused to pay the fine.
They can afford the fine because fines take into account income and can be paid in instalments.
They have refused.
They have been taken back to court and given another opportunity to pay and refused.
They have been sent to prison for what amounts to contempt of court (refusal to pay a legally imposed fine).
THEY HAVEN'T BEEN SENT TO PRISON FOR NOT PAYING THE BLOODY TV LICENCE.

React to this post as you will, I'm fed up now.

Ah classic Ringo! He’s now qualifying his statement with a ‘can’ and no doubt claiming that’s what he meant all along!

You need to look up the meaning of pedantry Ringo. It means correcting minor detail. If you think someone being fined rather than carted off to jail is a minor detail then I’m glad you’re nowhere near the legal profession.

Need to crack on now.

But all those desperate to defend the indefensible BBC poll tax should try this.

Refuse to renew their tv licence. Go through the legal process that would unfold. And if they haven't already done so. Don't bother renewing their season ticket for the Turf. As they may miss a couple of home games, due to being held at her Majesty's pleasure!

Be seeing you, but then again!........

Get a monochrome licence, they still do them I think, a fraction of the price of a colour. this keeps your name off their "Non-paymant" register so your registered as "Having a licence." I did that for 30 odd years.

If you don't have the money to pay the fine then don't watch TV (which they somehow had the money to buy)

But of course people not paying the tv licence is nothing to do with affordability, it's to do with predominantly right wing nutjobs thinking they're above the law and refusing to pay for it.

I'd come to an arrangement with the court whereby I pay a small amount a week (say £5-10) and cut down on my 20 a day habit by one pack a week.

An arrangement of £5-10 a week is more than paying for the TV licence in the first place.

Just shows how thick these licence fee evaders are.

In an attempt to wriggle out of admitting he'd wind up in jail, like 1000s before him. Paul claims that all those who can't afford the tv licence fee , let alone the 1000 quid fine, are 20 a day smokers!!!!!!!

Brilliant!!!!!

Remember. If you fall on hard times and, like 1000s, who have been imprisoned for non payment of the tv licence. Leave the soap where it it is!! It really can't be worth It!!!

Hope your out for the Europa league fella! I'll be able to spot ya. Guess you'd be one looking a bit delicate shall we say! :o

Can I suggest a future more appropriate user name? Ditch the Tall Paul and go for what could be a more accurate Tender Paul ;)

HA ha! Couldn't resist this one. So we have gone from people being imprisoned for not paying a TV licence (when it's actually for not paying a fine, which is fairly easy to avoid and affordable to anyone if imposed) to now being 'thousands' of people as opposed to the original 90 or so. I suppose that soon, in order to try to prop up an impossible argument we will have so many people in prison for 'not paying their TV licence' that half the prison population will be made up of licence dodgers. We will have to release a few paedophiles and murderers to make room for them.
Old lag: What you in for then son?
Dodger: Not paying my TV licence.
Old Lag: You baaastard. Hey lads we've got a live one 'ere. He's a licence dodger.
Assembled Crowd: What? The dirtbag, kill the dodger!
1st Guard: I think we'll have to put the dodger on the special wing.
2nd Guard: Yeah, the scumbag. Pity we can't leave him to the others, he deserves all he gets.
1st Guard: I know what you mean but we do have a duty of care, even to lowlife gits like him.
Mob: Kill him, he hasn't paid his licence. It's people like him that give us a bad name.
Dodger: But it was actually for non-payment of the fine.
Old Lag: It doesn't matter son. It is the same thing.
Dodger: Who says?
Old Lag: Some guy who calls himself Ringo.
Dodger: You mean the ex-Beatle?
Old Lag: No. Just some wind up who posts on a football forum.
Dodger: So because of him I'm about to be murdered by a prison mob for something I'm not in here for anyway?
Old Lag: Seems so son, seems so.

I didn't claim any such thing.

I'm quite happy to "admit" that if I didn't pay the court imposed fine for not paying my TV Licence that I might end up in jail, but it would be for non-payment of the fine, not the TV Licence.

It needs work. Put it that way!

If you tried the sky's the limit! Who knows you could actually admit that you were wrong!

But that ain't ever gonna happen is It!

Don't be rushing the script into the BBC will you. If they were to broadcast that, id predict a massive rise in non payment of the tv licence and 1000s more would wind up in jail!

Oh the self fulfilling irony!!

Forget the script writing fella. Just stick to what you're best at. Being wrong.

This is really easy.

In this country not a single person in the last 20 years has been sentenced to prison where the charge for which they were prosecuted and convicted was TV licence evasion.

Ringo. All it will take for you to prove the above statement wrong is to find one sentencing record that shows someone not being fined for failure to pay a TV licence, but actually sentenced to prison for it.
Surely you can find just one our of what you claim is several hundred per year, right?

I don't stick up for him much but do you not think poor people have budgeting issues?
It's perfectly possible to have budgetting issues because you're poor.

It is. But some people might budget and still not have £12 per month spare.

So they have a budgeting issue. The issue being there's not enough in their budget.

No not a budgeting issue. They don't have enough to budget with. Essential expenditure ( including TV licence) exceeds income.

Not having enough in a budget sounds to me like the dictionary definition of a budgeting issue.

The punishment for evading the licence fee is a fine of up to £1,000, but those who refuse to pay up can be hauled back before the courts and sent to jail.

Just how much of a super massive pedantic clown are You!??

Sound familiar uphisownturtle?

Don't pay your tv licence you wind up in jail.

Given you like to portray yourself as the UTC message board Owen Jones. Defending the imprisonment of the impoverished must really be a tough gig for you! But tieing your self in knots, and getting lost in a self made contradictory quandary, rabbit hole, hasn't stopped you making a total clown of yourself before has it!?

Keep up the idiotic work uphisownTurtle!!

Here's a challenge for you. Given you're so confident of skipping prison if you weren't to pay the tv licence.

What about not paying the BBC poll tax, letting the legal process take it's course and you could possibly meet up with Tender Paul and his new "friends" in Strangeways!

Those long long evenings inside would simply fly by as you both defiantly posted more and more garbage on here from your cell, about how you definately don't get prison for non payment! The Strangeways Clarets!!!

Your turn for the bucket!

These days, if you don't pay your license fee, you'll be arrested and thrown in jail.
