What I don't understand, is why football teams - who claim to be loosing money hand over fist - are opening up huge stadiums, and putting on all the stewarding and other staff requirements for the match.

Why can't games just be played at the training grounds? We played all our friendlies at Gawthorpe. Surely that will save loads of cash.

Theres no need for playing in front of zero fans in a huge stadium when all they need now is a pitch - I'm sure VAR could be moved to the training grounds.

Well, amongst many other things TV coverage would be impossible to any acceptable standard.

Why? They manage perfectly well at lower league and non league grounds (during Cup matches for example) by throwing up some scaffolding. Cheaper than turning the lights on and keeping the heat lamps on at the Turf for a week.

That is simply because the stadiums are set up for the needs of the broadcasters - if you have a look at the Premier League Handbook - the largest single section in it is about fulfilling the requirements of the broadcasters - Leeds have spent about £10m over the summer bring Elland Rd up to those requirements - and it not just the simple things like like power and cabling which now have to be permanently in place and the many TV/camera gantry's either. floodlighting requirements are amazingly specific (for Ultra HD). On top of that you have all the visiting press to accommodate, again with the appropriate technologies on hand. The broadcasters pay vast sums, they want to ensure that the content they produce is technically of a high quality

Not sure if you’re trolling.

A list of other barriers

Goal line technology
VAR
Changing facilities
Press facilities
Why wouldnt we need heat lamps on pitches at barnfield

I could go on

Why trolling? Genuine question. Pre season went ahead fine at Gawthorpe.

VAR can be moved. It's not that hard.

They have changing rooms at Gawthorpe. More than Turf Moor I think - seeing as they had two friendlies running at the same time in Pre season.

Press can comentate from the broadcast. It's done regularly.

Fair point on the lamps.

I just don't understand why spend so much opening a stadium needlessly. Especially when teams down the ladder are now living on borrowed time.

Maybe football should be put on hold for a year until things improve. No fans in stadiums ,no money coming into the club. It's getting boring now listening to
The fake crowds or the managers effing and jeffing every other word..

It’s all that’s getting me through this situation!!

I agree it’s not the same but it’s better than nothing.

It’s a truly ridiculous idea.
