I don't know whether Kevin Long would make a solid Championship player or not, all but two of his games on loan have been in League One and League Two.
I think he probably was, but my point is that he's been wasted here.

Not good for us, and certainly not good for him

All the Barnes/Long/JBG situation tells us that for whatever reason, and it doesn't matter whose fault it was, is that we have spent three season essentially treading water on squad recruitment and its looks like this season it might finally catch us out

The fact that Kevin Long is still here after 10 years and is still our 4th choice CB is frankly ridiculous (he's a solid championship player btw, as he's shown on loan, but he should have gone long ago)

I just hope that whatever happens we learn from this
Agreed. Long, Barnes, JBG should all have gone about three years ago as you say. Long and JBG I have less of a gripe with. Barnes though is truly dreadful as a Premier League forward. He used to be able to produce a firecracker goal once in a while but that's dwindled now leaving a player whose first thought with the ball is to topple onto the floor. There's no hold up play, no link, no goal threat. He runs about a bit but that's about as bare minimum as putting your boots on the correct feet.

It's a difficult one with Kevin Long though. No decent player would be willing to do that role, and it's a waste of a young player who would be better off out on loan actually playing football.

Another example of why it's the fans fault.

Jay Rod's game was already hindered along time before Wout rocked up, 3 goals in 60 appearances.
If Wout adds nothing, then what does Jay Rod add? 3 goals in 60 appearances?

1 goal every TWENTY games? Wow amazing
The best goal return would be achieved with jrod and Wout, and the same when wood was with us with them running on to through balls from midfield, because as I see it that's their game, problem is we don't have a midfield that plays that game and provide a link, this is exacerbated by the fact that we don't have much pace in the forwards. So all in all lack of movement up front and lack of nouse with service I suppose is what I'm saying. The one with any kind of pace was left on the bench for long spells by a certain Mr dyche, consequently as a collective we find ourselves in the position we are in today, oh and the average age of the squad doesn't help matters, still we're not finished yet, on to spurs and let's hope 1 or 2 are back and we can compete, unlike yesterday.

Well, no, the idea is that the 4th choice CB shouldn't be the same for 10 years

Tarkowski and Mee have been brilliant for us, but realistically, they were assets that should have been cashed in at their peak, and then the progression to the 1st team is there*

*I know its not a guarantee btw, and its perfectly possible that selling our best players could result in relegation, but its clear that teams our size with our financial backing can only succeed at this level (ie surviving) by selling players and buying cheaper replacements

Is Bobby Thomas left footed? Long isn't is he? Left footed centre half has to be up there with the priorities this summer.

Sorry, shouldn't have quoted you in that really. Unless you're left footed and fancy a run out. :)

There's a good argument in there for progression.
something that just hasn't happened.
I totally agree that the 3rd/4th choice basically treading water doesn't help this progression.
We have to find a way of giving squad players more competitive game time. Thomas rarely plays, this can't be doing him much good, can it?

Right position, but wrong foot, and perhaps 30 years too late (my talent might hold me back as well!)

We had nothing else to talk about in the 2nd half yesterday!
