Well I've booked a day holiday and a hotel. Will be driving up from Sussex in the morning.
I for one wont be happy with a postponement. Life goes on. Long live the King.

How does stopping everything help anyone? If I remember correctly, the games went ahead on (or just after) 9/11.

Why don't they stop other activities?
Shut the pubs for starters.
it seems odd to me that we won't be able to watch a sporting event but will be able to get rat-arsed (if we choose).

Statement from EFL

Said it was posted 4hrs ago which is a bit of a surprise but it looks like they will be consulting with the government and will let us know asap.
Hope its before lots of people start travelling.

Games were postponed following Diana’s death. I think it’s pretty much guaranteed, that after the death of The Queen, there will be no football this weekend.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
I remember reading an article explaining the timings and events that would unfold once this happened. Apparently comedy shows..especially satirical ones..will be postponed. Sporting events could be cancelled etc.
This may have been drawn up quite some time ago and the world has changed. Be interesting to see how strictly they stick to the plan but if they do we can expect some big disruption to our normal life in the next week.
Personally I think a balance has to be struck.
For example..We are supposed to be going to Alton Towers for the weekend. Do peoples plans suddenly stop? Would this be cancelled/postponed? Could become quite problematic for businesses. We are in a vastly different world to when King George VI died.
Hope common sense is preserved whilst also maintaining a sense of reverence.

Good. Are people supposed to mope around the house in grief all weekend? There’s no reason why football should be cancelled and it will actually present a good opportunity for people to collectively show their respect.summitclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 7:26 pmUnited game tonight going ahead, following direction from the FA and EUFA.

I plan to set off at 11AM tomorrow, so if the game is going to be off it would be nice to know sooner rather than later before travelling.Carport wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 6:29 pmPresuming that Norwich and some distant Burnley fans will have to set off Friday lunchtime or before so I imagine there will be a fair bit of disruption to them if the game gets postponed late on. Games that are eventually replayed are postponed not cancelled methinks. .

If all sporting events are cancelled, do we then get a 10 day bank holiday too? Just seems a bit farcical to cancel all leisure activities.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
I have to agree. It may sound disrespectful to some, but why is there a need to cancel events?
People can show their respects at the events - no doubt there will be a minutes silence at the next round of fixtures as well. If people wish to mourn and not do the things they would normally do, then fine, it's personal choice. A blanket cancelling of everything seems over the top to me.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
Funeral should be next Saturday...9 days after her death. Possible our game may be moved to the Sunday. With it being a Saturday it wouldn't need to be a bank holiday although shops will be likely shut.
Football likely cancelled inbetween but theatre shows allowed to continue? Strange.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
Real false dichotomy that we have to cancel leisure to mourn a passing.
We can do both - Queen Liz (God rest her soul) struck me as the sort of person who’d want things to continue on.

It would seem logical to me that if the funeral is next weekend, then all sport etc could justifiably be suspended over that weekend as a mark of respect, and therefore, (particularly in view of the short notice) this weekend's sport should go ahead with an appropriate mark of respect.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 7:46 pmFuneral likely to be next Saturday, therefore no public holiday.
Surely we shouldn't have leisure activities cancelled on 2 successive weekends whilst other things are continuing as normal?

Sounds like our game will be off tomorrow evening then, however a definite decision would be nice to know, even if it is a pain in the butt having booked travel and accommodation, although I'm sure I won't be the only one in that boat.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 7:32 pmRacing off today and tomorrow. So will the Preston & Bristol City games go as well?
I thought they could manage one set of games called off, but if nothing takes place during an extended period of mourning then it could be a struggle to fit everything in.

Likely to be cancelled around 3 dates as mentioned earlier. This weekend, the day of the queen being laid to state rest (probably Tuesday or Wednesday) and then day of the funeral next weekend.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 7:52 pmIt would seem logical to me that if the funeral is next weekend, then all sport etc could justifiably be suspended over that weekend as a mark of respect, and therefore, (particularly in view of the short notice) this weekend's sport should go ahead with an appropriate mark of respect.
