Re: Zaroury
The only concern I have about Zaroury is his size, if we compare him his countryman De Bruyne he is fairly small but at 5ft 9 not bad, I accept they play in slightly different roles.
He seems to have a good head on him too, sensible lad, good team spirit. He has a chance, that’s for sure.
Worth adding that at 3.5m few other Championship sides could have afforded him - despite our travails we remain with plenty of financial clout. If we go up that will be as vital as Kompany is.

Re: Zaroury
He just needs feeding as much as possible and then it is certain he will get his fullback sent off before the season is out. We should have also done this much more on Tuesday as he had Aarons beaten all ends up.

Whatever happened to that complete brainfart of a thread about these young foreigners not being up to it in this league?

Re: Zaroury
Bump what an addition this lad has been and now he's adding goals 3 already this season with the promise of delivering a good few more before the end of the campaign.

Re: Zaroury
A little early for him to be going to the World Cup as a late inclusion, he is probably behind Ramazani in the U21 pecking order, but their wingers aren’t playing much for their club sides (apart from KDB obvs) and that is a big danger for them in Qatar. Both Hazards and Chadli are all bench warmers this season.
I don’t think Anass is more than a year away from the full squad, which of course is what we want, under the radar for a bit then make a name for himself with us next season. It won’t be long before they want him as an understudy in the national setup.

Re: Zaroury
Someone stupidly mentioned his height but look at his build, his attitude, his touch, the lad has star quality and we should enjoy whilst he is here and look forward to the fee we receive when he goes. The guy is immense, the best youngster I have seen in a Burnley shirt. I also think he is enjoying it, the way he went down the Longside at the end of the match, shaking g hands, having his photo taken, he will never forget Burnley.

Belgium have started producing a number of promising young players and Anass will have to fight hard to get caps but he's doing all he can do to stake his claim.
Re: Zaroury
Just watched his interview on Twitter. Very humble, seems like a lovely chap. Top man with bucket loads of talent.

Re: Zaroury
Unbelievable talent, goes inside, outside, lots of pace, great shot, opens teams up. I particularly love the way he takes a long pass and kills it with one touch.
What's not to like. In a team of outstanding players, he stands out. We can be very wasteful with possession, but rarely Zaroury.

Fantastic player. Shades of Leighton James with first touch and away on the run. How good is he going to.be?Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 7:36 pmUnbelievable talent, goes inside, outside, lots of pace, great shot, opens teams up. I have to ask, how did the bigger clubs not see his potential, and get in before us! Just glad they didn’t, he seems destined for stardom. Just enjoy watching him while he’s here!

Re: Zaroury
Great to see him gambling at the back post. That's been the one thing that's slightly been wanting at times in his run in the team (Kompany alluded to it post game) but apart from all the obvious talent he's clearly a quick learner and a good listener cos he was Johnny on the Spot there.

This kid is special. He’s got everything and I have no doubt he will go on to be a superstar. Love his confidence and simply love how he interacts with fans.

Don’t know why his size is mentioned. He’s a tricky winger, he’s better small as it improves his agility. It’s not like he’s not strong on the ball either, you can tell he’s a natural athlete look at his legs.
Same thing with benson, he can change direction way quicker than anyone else I’ve seen at Burnley, he looks like Messi on the ball.

Exactly this, its early days but he reminds me of Leighton. I think he has that mannerism when he checks his run, he also pushes the ball past the defender.

Re: Zaroury
If he continues to progress, he’s got a great career ahead of him.
His balance is excellent. He’s equally comfortable going either way with the ball when one-on-one. Add in his decent pace and first touch and he’s a nightmare for defenders.
It was telling that Hendrick went over to the full back on Zaroury’s side several times after he’d been beaten to offer some advice. It suggested the full back wasn’t following whatever gameplan they had for him. It’s a compliment to be occupying the thoughts of the opposition after only a handful of starts.

Re: Zaroury
Important not to lose context. The reason I mentioned his size a few days ago as something that may limit him is nothing more than it cuts down his options, some Premier League sides, particularly in the bottom half where they come under the cosh, like tall wingers, e.g. Dwight and Gudmundsson both 6 ft+. Sarr being another. I happen to think those managers are wrong but they do exist, The Premier League is huge physically as we found out when we went up. Some below average height (<6ft) players of supreme talent do thrive but there are many who do not.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 8:24 pmDon’t know why his size is mentioned. It certainly wasn’t a criticism of Zaroury, a wonderful talent, just a view on his career path, and not one I made today after his last minute winner

Re: Zaroury
Now what about a comparison with this superbly talented young man and Dwight?

Re: Zaroury
I was disappointed that Dwight left. Thought he’d have been great for us this season. However, Zaroury for me has been an incredible replacement and if I had to pick one now, it would be Zaroury. He’s quicker and two footed which makes a huge difference.
Re: Zaroury
Is he the first two footed winger we have had since Glen Little? It really makes a difference when the defender has no idea which way a winger is going to go. I can see us having to fend off clubs in Jan if he carries on playing like he is.

Re: Zaroury
He made a run in the first half down the left hand side in front of the Bob Lord. He threatened to go past the full back down the line but instead he cut back inside and delivered a superbly flighted and weighted ball with his right foot. I mentioned at the time that was just like Leighton James who is probably the best player (IMO) I’ve seen in my time watching Burnley.

Re: Zaroury
I saw this thread earlier but didn't comment, although I said to myself that Zaroury was like James. You beat me to mentioning it. Two-footed like James, beats his man either side like James and a good finisher like James. Top prospect.beeholeclaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 5:51 amHe made a run in the first half down the left hand side in front of the Bob Lord. Re: Zaroury
Ings and trippier come to mind. Ings used to b0llock his teammates for not pinging it in to him with enough pace and Trippier used to pull down hoofed balls out wide at all sort of heights like it was a pass rolled to his feet.claretandy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 7:40 amI don't think i've ever seen a player play for us who has a first touch like him, especially when the ball is pinged at him.
Good yardstick that tho. Both full internationals now

Zaroury plays with either foot, great 1st touch, can put shot away and more athletical than McNeil.
Tella is as fast and skillful but stronger and fitter than Cornet

Re: Zaroury
I agree Zaroury is a talent, but I just wished when we crossed from either wing we had someone in the box who could capitalise on the good work.
Controversial - how many would Chris wood have scored so far this season if he had been in the team. And can we recall weghorst?

Re: Zaroury
Think people are getting carried away a bit. McNeil and Cornet were playing at a much higher level, in a team that was setup to defend. Shame we couldn't have kept McNeil, he'd have been brilliant playing down the right in our setup now.

Re: Zaroury
Yes less pace but the comparison is not about pace. When James received the ball his control was such that he was able to go forward straight away without another touch. Zaroury is similar.

I have said this before. Yesterday the ball went across their six yard box at least three times with no forward there for the tap inbrexit wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 12:01 pmI agree Zaroury is a talent, but I just wished when we crossed from either wing we had someone in the box who could capitalise on the good work.

In last two home games Jayrod has played far too deep probably so Tella has space behind. But when we have a measured build up both of them should head for the box

Re: Zaroury
I often thought the early criticisms of Benson’s final ball were somewhat overegged as often he’d deliver a perfectly serviceable ball into the area and there was often just nobody there.
