Appreciate the context. But Vegas’ team for example would surely take a beating. So it seems some are happy to lose the game to keep fresh legs for a league game. Not a criticism, just odd as I mentioned due to the criticism levelled at Dyche for playing weakened teams in the cups.
I thought the criticism was more about the weakened teams getting beaten.
Had they won nobody would have complained.

What's wrong with that team?

If it can't beat Crawley then why all they all in our 25 man squad ?

Good to see Costello back. Lowton should have started at rb last game.

Well.. I hope we're not going to see Benson booted up in the air all night. I'd have hoped we could take care of Crawley without risking him.

Apart from Benson can't knock the team. BPF has the opportunity to showcwhat he can do ok only Crawley but a clean sheet and domination of the box might get both VK and Muric thinking.

Don’t think we should be preparing for a game against Rovers any differently than a game against Luton, who we failed to beat incidentally.

Quite a strong XI per se. Pretty much our prem defence with 5 “prem” players in the team along with other regulars and a free big guns on the bench . Sure it’s a bit disjointed but surely we have far too much for these .

Also allows VK to rest a few legs and bed a few youngsters if were cruising . Though we all know how decent “ on paper” Dyche teams looked …

Wonder if Lowton will play CH if Roberts also in team, with Egan Riley playing defensive midfielder

Or alternatively Roberts playing wide midfield and Lowton RB. Guess we wont know until kick off.. This team sends out a message re Kevin Long's future for me

I could have picked Rotherham or any random team - it's not that it's Rovers, it's the fact they are one place behind us and it will be a tough game. I'm pleased the midfield is being given a rest more than anything

Yeah sure. But some of the teams posted, for example listing 4 players as unspecified under 21s is basically throwing the game. I’m not having a go, I was just asking if it was fair to say that these people aren’t taking the cup seriously. For the record, I’m sure all of us would take a defeat tonight and a win on Sunday, but I don’t think that losing this game would be the best way to prepare for Sunday, particularly on the back of a big defeat.

Yep. Imo he won't play him because he thinks he is too old. He needs to start on Sunday against Diaz. Lowton knows about what it means to play Rovers.

Looks to me like there is a concern getting Benson fit enough for 90 mins so every outing helps. The only logic playing him, but to be fair we only have 1 game for 5 weeks so it is a risk but not a huge one hopefully. Anything really bad happens to any of them, well, that can always be the case, even in training.

reading their twitter feed it sounds like they are disgusted with their managers choice to make changes, things like "imagining travelling all that way to watch that team"

I'm hoping for an 8-0 home win !

Looking forward to seeing (‘seeing’ - listening I guess) McNally, Egan-Riley, Costelloe and the lesser spotted Lowton stake a claim. I really think Lowton would be great on the first team bench as an option to close games out, but appreciate he’s clearly surplus to the managers requirements and isn’t the future considering he’s nearing 34.

Benson is a shock but can only think Kompany maybe wants to get this killed off as a contest early, make some subs (like Benson) so that he can perhaps introduce some of our younger players?
