I don’t think it should be underestimated how much it would mean to win tomorrow night.

If we’re all being honest with ourselves, promotion is done. There’s no reason not to throw everything we’ve got at the cup. It will keep the magic of this season alive. Once we’re out the cup I do wonder if we will ease of the gas a bit and protect players for next season/ give some of the new lads more game time to get a proper look at them ahead of the summer.

If anything I’d flip it round. If we get through tomorrow then play the strongest team in the cup and rotate in the league.

Fleetwoods fishal site says they have sold over 1400 tickets as of yesterday.

Decent following from Fleetwood, it seems it is our fans who don't fancy going on this game looking at the ticket sales.

Cork will do well to start given he’s suspended
Good point I missed that about Cork. Shame we can’t edit these posts.

Brownhill and Cullen thus have to play for me then. No easing off.

Has anybody asked to play a "weak team"

Which players in the squad are you classing as weak
By definition, despite what VK says, everybody not in the regular starting XI is weaker than those that are. I appreciate some are 50/50.

Some posters are saying play as few of the main starting XI as possible to avoid risking the league. I’m saying there is zero risk now of no promotion, and we are hugely likely to win the title, so we should focus on trying to win the cup and at least give us a Wembley trip.

Shows I am not as young as I used to be I suppose but I remember the days when players were rested in league games to keep them for cupties and even injured star players were patched up to play in cupties. Only one sub in those days as well.

Irrespective of what team we field one thing we know is that Burnley will be going out to win this tie full blast. In the previous era no matter what the situation was, usually the approach was very half hearted. Under Dyche when we were not playing City we went out to lower league opposition at home four times in six seasons.

This year thanks to a different attitude and the team rotation, the game will not just be a run out for a few lads to get "minutes". Kompany was asked if he was worried about fixture congestion and he simply replied " We are footballers and we love playing games". It's this mindset added to his comments about non existent fringe players that has inspired me to drive down and over from Tyneside tomorrow and back again the same night. I am just hoping there isn't extra time!

Is Cork suspended? I thought he had served his ban?

Yes, this is a competition specific ban for two yellows in previous rounds.

See Scott Twine has done the press conference today. Suspect that all but confirms his place in the starting eleven for tomorrow.

The new rule has been in for a few years now - Erik Pieters had to sit out our fifth round tie against Bournemouth two years ago for the same reason

I don't like the idea of Obafemi playing out wide just so everyone can get a game. I'm not a big fan of playing players out of position.

If Obafemi and Foster play then i'd like to see them in a front two....but I can't see Twine not starting.

If anything, we're a little short on wide players just now. I noticed Churlinov in the recent training photos - maybe he can start tonight.

And with all that… Vitinho left wing 😂

12 points clear at the top so nothing to lose in progressing far in the cup. Go Strong, keep the confidence up. Maybe bring Twine in to build up his fitness more, keep JBG fresh. Maybe rest Barnes and give Obafemi a start, though I would prob bring him on as a sub.

Muric
Roberts - Ekdal - Beyer - Maatsen
Cullen - Brownhill
Tella - Twine - Zaroury
Barnes

We have been nearly caught out 3 or 4 times this season when VK started with what fans at the time said was a weaker team only to be rescued by a stronger bench in the 2nd half...

On those 3 or 4 occasions, VK started players that had little game time, were coming back from injury layoff or were not in great form compared to some on the bench who were in great form...

I would say that is the only weakness I have seen from VK this season, where he is resolute and stubborn in rotation as SD is with picking the same team every game... I would rather have it that way though but it has nearly caught VK out a few times...

Personally, I would rather start with the strongest possible team and then rest them as the game goes on and bring subs on for tired legs.

I agree, I would like to see Obafemi start as CF

Absolutely no reason we can't have a real shot at the cup, when will such an opportunity present itself again.

And with Rovers going through last night even more incentive to progress tonight.

Sure we might draw City or Utd in the last 8, equally we might also draw Rovers or Southampton and have a fabulous chance of making a Wembley semi-final.

:D it’s a possibility of course…

Maybe Vitinho could take one of the full back positions tonight and give Roberts/Maatsen a rest.

I don’t think it would be a daft idea to play Foster on the left of a front three and have Zaroury on the bench. On the numerous YouTube clips everyone watched leading up to him signing he was predominantly attacking down the left hand side and looked to have good ball carrying skills. A bit like Gyorkeres at Cov and what Henry used to do (relatively speaking of course) at Arsenal.

They are not to be underestimated. On a good run of form and they got a point at Ipswich against whom we struggled a bit. Brown sounds like a good manager and is very clear about our strengths. All that said if we play half as well as we can we should win

BPF
Roberts Ekdal Beyer Taylor
Brownhill Cullen
Tella Twine Zaroury
Obafemi

Although I wouldn't be surprised if Bastien gets a game.

It's difficult to predict as Foster, Vitinho and Bastien could easily start.
