Great player but let's not get ahead of ourselves. He still has a lot to prove in the Premier League. Defending will mean a lot more and running out from the back will matter a lot less.

The gap in quality is tremendous, and he will find it hard but I have faith in Kompany's judgement, if he thinks he can do it then I'll trust him.

He already had one taste of what to expect versus Manchester City.
Yes but he will only face Man City twice a season.

Let’s be fair here, City batter pretty much everyone, even the elite, at least once a season and they have some freakishly good talent, especially their multiple record breaking centre forward.

Beyer will be more than fine next session, he’s a very very good footballer.

Fabulous news. He's been my favourite player this season.

But how can we sign him when the transfer window isn't open yet?

You can still announce the signing but won't be made 'official' e.g. contracts / registering until June (last year June 10th).

Transfer window is a bit of a misnomer, more strictly it’s a registration window. So clubs can’t register new players outside of the window. I guess in this case we already have Beyer registered with us so the deal can happen. Think the same happened with Chris Wood and Nottm Forest. He was loaned to them in the transfer window then they made the deal permanent some weeks after the window had closed.

Why on earth would you be concerned about a 15m fee. Absolute bargain for this guy. Great News.
I guarantee there is not one fan who would complain about spending £15m on Beyer. However, like me there are some who question the actual figure as he was relatively unknown before we signed him on loan. I just think he will have been more of a bargain than has been reported in Mönchengladbach.

I’ve been told, by someone that’s usually quite timed in on these things and does have contacts that the €15m includes the loan fees for this season just past and the potential add ons, so the up front figure is actually much less.

No surprise. I reckon the up front fee could be more in the region of 6/7m with another 5m or so as bonuses then the loan fee as you suggest (talking £'s here).

Interestingly Nixon replied when someone asked about the €15m fee saying: 'I imagine that’s if you win the champions League 😂 … There’s an up front sum that was agreed at the start. A reasonable one. Need to recall he was a Bundesliga reserve when he came. Good business anyway.'

You can register the signing if a player has been on loan and there is an option to buy included.

Fair points but I try not to get carried away. There's been countless players who've been so good in the championship that haven't in the Premier League. We're all riding a high right now after this season but next season is going to be tough and a lot of our players probably aren't going to cut it.

The good thing is we are now entering with a younger squad so players should be able to improve a lot more.

Only just seen this now. Is that not fantastic news? I suspect for most of us Jordan was THE loanee we most really wanted to sign perm. There's not much in it for me between this lad and THB but he had such a good second half of the season.

Absolutely delighted about this!

City are absolutely an outlier, Haaland is a freak athlete. Age 5 he set the world record in standing longjump for his age bracket. Compare him to Mbappe, the player everyone tries to position as the Ronaldo to his Messi. Mbappe's known for his pace, his top clocked sprint speed is 36.08 km/h this season. Haaland's is 36.22. He's faster than Mbappe despite being a giant, he's younger, he already has unreal instinct and positioning. Almost nobody will contain him for 90 minutes.

The better comparison is Man United. Against whom we were competitive but ultimately beaten, and I expect that's how a lot of the battles against the 8 clubs vying for top 4 will go- we'll put up a damn good fight, maybe scare them, but probably not get too many points.
Against the teams we're actually competing with, I fancy Beyer to more than hold his own. It's not often you have a defender make it look THAT effortless in the Championship.

I think I posted early in the season when we were all raving about well Cork was playing (remember that??), I agreed, but said something like "but I bet Beyer will be POTY by the end of season."

Nice to be right once in a while.

What great news! What a fabulous player.

We are well stocked at CB and if THB isn't coming back, I wonder if McNally will be the 4th? Seems to be doing really well at Coventry. Be nice to not to have to spend cash there when it's more critical to spend it in other areas?? Did well at Bournemouth as I recall. Just a thought.

He's been brilliant this season, great signing but you were wrong about him being POTY or PPOTY :D
