What a fool VK must be not to fully understand that point of view and to even consider including him as part of his pre season plans. Perhaps you should have a word with him when he returns.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 8:40 pmFms need to understand, he dissed us. Walked away thinking he was the big I am. I get that the level of thickness on this board can be off the scale about stuff that isn't football, but I assumed that people could work out that booing your own players doesn't result in successful teams
It really is that basic
If you are going to boo, then kindly hand your season ticket in to reception and go the 'Spoons where you belong

I've already said this earlier in the thread so sorry for repeating the point, but nobody went to Genk to boo Wout (lol how are those real words? Genk, boo, Wout...those are all comic book onomatopoeias), people went to Genk for a pissup, probably got bored witless with the game and so tried entertaining themselves with the easiest thing at hand, the simplest base feeling that arose in them: boo the pantomime villain.

The guy just seems to bring negative vibes. Look how long it's taken for our fans to start arguing amongst themselves.
He comes across as a classic energy sapper.
He's failed in the prem twice, we need to get shut asap if we get any kind of semi decent offer.

I didn’t rate him even one bit, but you’d have to be a special type of silly not to see that we’re a totally different team to the one he left. We have to give him a go if we cannot sell him and more importantly we have to trust Kompany because he has earned that trust.
Surely as a fanbase we can see that?

Re: Weghorst Reception
I must admit, I didn't want to be corrected, but I don't remember him saying that either.
His actions may well have implied that he didn't want to play for us, but if it was to further his international ambitions, then it's understandable to a point.
Whatever people's view of him, booing him is just moronic in my view.
Re: Weghorst Reception
Slight overreaction to probably no more than a few knuckleheads being knuckleheads.
Weghorst doesn’t want to be here.
A large portion of our fans don’t want him to be here.
Probably best for all concerned that he’s moved on, and I’ll be amazed if he’s still with us come the end of the window.
But abusing our players is completely unacceptable, and if he is staying, then we need to get behind him, which I’m sure we will.

End of the day, anyone booing Weghorst is in theory booing Kompany, Kompany clearly wants him and is choosing to play him, so if we are at this stage the first game fans are able to watch then we are in for a long season

Can you show me where he said he was too good for the championship? Which in all fairness going off his career before us he clearly was.Spiral wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 8:44 pmDidn't mask his self-interested cynicism as well as 99% of other footballers; or rather, events transpired whereby his cynicism was revealed in spite of his best efforts to maintain the appearance of affection for the club that fans of all clubs yearn for - even if they don't truthfully expect of it - in their players- all this happened to a player who lacked the talent that would otherwise persuade fans that he really, truly is too good to be playing in the Championship. If goes something like this, to use a hypothetical: Mbappe, you don't want to play in the Championship? Yeh, sounds about right. Good luck to you in Madrid. Wout, you don't want to play in the Championship? Why? What've you done to earn that clemency?
I never really bothered that he left the way he did, I just don't see what he gives us, but I hope so much to be proven wrong.
From what us fans know he had verbally agreed with the owners to be allowed to leave if relegated because Holland's manager had refused to pick him for his one and only chance to play at a world cup if he played in the championship, how many others jumped ship immediately without the chance of a world cup place yet we've had discussions about which we'd have back this season
Boils down to this for me is he an upgrade on what we have??
He's better than JRod, Foster and Obafemi so he goes straight in as backup striker to Amdouni he could be the difference between staying up or going down

Re: Weghorst Reception
I don’t think Weghorst will be here on 2 September and I won’t be particularly disappointed, but until he goes we should support him (or at least refrain from booing him). For all we know he might be in VK’s plans.
Whether he can cut it in the PL is a separate discussion to how he “behaved”. I suspect he’ll struggle in our system, but I don’t hold it against him for not wanting to play in the Championship when presented with a better opportunity. Neither did Mee, Pope, Cornet, McNeil or Tarkowski.

Re: Weghorst Reception
I've got no problem with fans booing players that they are unhappy about playing for the club. It's football. It's fans.
Personally I've never done it myself although if we had signed Simon Garner or David Dunn back in the day, I would have been sorely tempted.
The club only have themselves to blame for this situation though.
When Weghorst ambled back into Gawthorpe, he should have been sat down and told to do an interview with the club's website and explain why he wanted to be back at the club, how his move to Besiktas was no disrespect to the club and how he respects VK and is looking forward to working with him. Deal with the issues and move on.
Instead they posted an inane social media video where he is asked what he was looking forward to most about being back at Burnley and he sighed before his weak answer.
Offer him to Southampton in exchange for Nathan...

That only works if the club aren’t actively trying to sell him. For all we know, they are. Re: Weghorst Reception
I'm probably not the one you're looking for to labour that point, I honestly don't care that he left. I'm basically trying to articulate why I think it is that some fans think what think about him, and in the minds of those who have written him off not for his ability but for the way he left, the feeling of him being a deserter is not going to be remotely assuaged by the finer technical points surrounding his departure, about which you are entirely correct.bumba wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:06 pmCan you show me where he said he was too good for the championship? Re: Weghorst Reception
So imagine this:
Ten minutes into the city game, Roberts fires a ball into the city box, Weghorst controls it and wallops it into the top corner. Connor has two choices here.
1. He turns away, ignores Wout and jogs back to our half whilst everyone else is celebrating the goal.
2. He chases down weghorst and jumps all over him showering him with kisses.
If it’s 1, they hate each other and we fans have to pick a side.
If it’s 2, then all is forgiven (whatever “all” was) and we all embrace Wout as the Dutch Harry Kane.
Alternatively, we can just put all this shite to bed and get behind everyone safe in the knowledge that if VK is keeping him around, that should be good enough for everyone else.
Booing a Burnley player whilst he’s on the pitch? That’s the domain of the brain dead and horse botherers. If you forget who you support when you’ve had a little drinky-poo, do us all a favour and stay home.
