It might go down as day light robbery she says now.
Nigeria were crap, they had 1 shot on target in 120 minutes. 45 minutes with an extra player.
Get in England.

Re: England v Nigeria WWC
Hardly a stomp but a correct soft red, silly mistake to step on her opponent.
Re: England v Nigeria WWC
Think Nigeria had shown through the 120 mins they couldn’t hit a barn door, 18 shots - 2 on target, so the shootout was no big surprise. Well done England!

Re: England v Nigeria WWC
Got to admire their bottle, England's men have blown enough penalty shoot outs in the past.
Re: England v Nigeria WWC
"Crap"?
Hardly.
And in that 'win' the Lionesses hardly covered themselves in glory.
They've acknowledged that in the way they've consoled the Nigerians

Glad it’s not just me regrading the commentary. They spent all game banging on about how dangerous Nigeria were at one point they had us ‘on the ropes’ etc… absolute nonsense. Nigeria were powerful and played their game well. They arguably edged the game between both boxes in terms of pace and power but as others say, England had the better chances and our keeper never had a significant save to make.

Whilst not at our best a brave battling performance. The commentators and pundits in the studio seemed to love to criticise at every opportunity. Nigeria had very few shots and after we went down to 10 I thought we improved.

I thought we were the best all the way through and it was deserved in the end. Once again the women don't bottle it in the big games.
Re: England v Nigeria WWC
Well done England, the best team won.
Re: England v Nigeria WWC
Any team that wants to win a tournament has to get through at least one of these games. The Germans used to be masters of it.

The Nigerians were fast, physically more powerful but England played better football and adapted well to the foolish red card. England made hard work of it but IMO deserved their victory

3 games with Walsh in the team, 3 scrappy wins. 1 game without Walsh in the team overwhelming win. Shades of Dyche here from SW.

A very stupid, petulant sending-off.
IMHO, of course.

Showed great resilience there. Lucky with penalty shout against Bronze, but you need luck.

Re: England v Nigeria WWC
Nigeria were full of energy as expected but other than that pretty clueless. The first shot against the bar was a worldie but that was about it.
Re: England v Nigeria WWC
I think the officials would have struggled to justify a penalty after VAR overturned an England penalty for something that looked very similar.helmclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 1:23 pmShowed great resilience there. Lucky with penalty shout against Bronze, but you need luck.
