Re: Assignon incident.
what was beyond embarrassing? the perceived lack of VAR to see the initial contact? or Assignon's petulant reaction? You need to be clear what it is you're talking about because he was clipped by Son and was fouled, but he was also petulant and that could be described as embarrassing.
Re: Assignon incident.
The replays that are available on TV don't go back far enough to show the contact, it makes Assignon look stupid, I can only presume that, that's the footage that VAR were looking at.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 10:32 pmInteresting. Having watched it on the telly it looks nowhere near a foul.

Re: Assignon incident.
Clipped or not, in the ground in the away end that reaction was embarrassing. No amount of defence can get past that. Dara's reaction summed up what we all thought to it watching in the stadiumRick_Muller wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 10:40 amwhat was beyond embarrassing? the perceived lack of VAR to see the initial contact? or Assignon's petulant reaction? I agree - I was there too which is how I know he was clipped by Sonclarets1978 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 3:36 pmClipped or not, in the ground in the away end that reaction was embarrassing. Re: Assignon incident.
It's not the point. He was wasting time when we needed 2 goals in 6 minutes pretending he was injured. O'Shea then called him out on it at which point we all saw that there was nothing wrong with him and he was being a bit of a t*t trying to get them to check VAR which they should be doing regardless.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:00 pmI agree - I was there too which is how I know he was clipped by Son
It's shite from the officials but that doesn't save Assignon on this occasion. He was being a complete pillock.

I dont disagree! read my comments - I also think he was being stupid by wasting time when we wanted a goal. That behaviour by him was inexcusable after 10 seconds of trying to get a VAR review. As soon as everyone else on the pitch was ready to continue he should have been too!Goliath wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:03 pmIt's not the point. BUT... he was clipped and it should have been a penalty and it is another example where we have been robbed by poor officiating at a key moment of a game, and it also appears to be covered up by the limited replay via official channels (such as MoTD) who only show him kicking his own leg which leads to a specific narrative. Feel free to keep calling him out for being embarrassing or whatever for his reaction and staying down, I agree, but you cannot defend the officiating at all - it was poor... again.

Apologies, I'd only seen the last comment. I'm.with you that the cover up is bizarre..I can only think they are worried about the repercussions with it being a decision that was basically the final nail in the coffin of our survival hopes.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:27 pmI dont disagree! read my comments - I also think he was being stupid by wasting time when we wanted a goal. A goal there would have led to a very exciting final 5 minutes

Re: Assignon incident.
Have to say it's weird that the clear section of video (shown from the Burnley Supporters vantage point) doesn't start until after the supposed contact between Son and Assignon...although the grainy video and the effect on Assignon suggests there was.
Regarding the "Poor us. We don't get the decisions" brigade....it happens to the richer teams too:

No argument that Trossard does to Kulusevski as is suggested Son did to Assignon.

Re: Assignon incident.
Some wild views on here. An obvious foul. And obvious idiocy after being fouled.

Re: Assignon incident.
To be fair to him, he probably knew the desperation for the goals and he was trying to make it very very clear there was an injustice here and it should be a penalty. He wasn't wasting the time just to be a prat.
