What kind of naïve stupidity makes someone attempt a comparison when there can only be a comparison after an equal time of ownership .
If ,after say 8 yrs from their acquisition they’re still here only then can we offer a direct comparison. A straight return to the prem next year would be level pegging thus far I’d say .

A new direction ? Down ..twice you mean ? Though it was time for a new start as the transfer money had all but run out 2 seasons before .
Re: Garlick / dyche or ALK/kompany ?
Lot of interesting points on this thread. I see both sides of the argument.
However...
Remember the mid 90s and early 2000's when we were duelling it out with PNE, Blackpool, Stockport and Wigan?
Losing to Rovers all the time. Culminating in a series of low to mid-table championship finishes after flirting with the play offs? Crowds of 13k. Pretty average football.
Well that is PNE's current status now. They haven't progressed in 20 years. Every season is that mediocrity. Blackpool and Bolton have gone down. Rovers are a laughing stock.
Since 2009 we have been promoted to the premier league FOUR times and won the Old Lady twice. Spent 8 seasons in the Prem, got into Europe etc.
Fans of these other clubs would bite their hand of to be in our position. We will be one of the favourites again next season (with good reason) and we will be ready to strike fear into our rivals. Let's enjoy the ride and be thankful for our lot, as when we look back on this in 10-15 years they will be classed as halcyon days.

You can only offer a direct comparison, if there is an equal starting point and that is impossible in this case. Very few appear to understand/remember the desperate state the club was in when Mike Garlick took control of the club, debts were around 80% of revenues and revenues were around 60% of costs, the infrastructure of the club was in a largely wretched condition particularly from an employee working environment experience. That was not the situation on December 30 2020AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 3:08 pmWhat kind of naïve stupidity makes someone attempt a comparison when there can only be a comparison after an equal time of ownership .

Re: Garlick / dyche or ALK/kompany ?
So his ideas and tactics had gone stale, had they. Must be the new coaching team he has round him at Everton that's enabled them to win 48 points from games played so far this season - and I see he's developed another centre half.
Garlick wanted to sell BFC and become a rich man, and he did. I appreciate some might say that Dyche owes Garlick for giving him the Burnley job, but I'd argue that the real winner was Garlick (laughing all the way to the Bank). Ultimately Dyche would have got a job elsewhere and would have been successful. I fail to be convinced that Garlick would have chosen someone else who would have gone on to be as successful for the club as Dyche.
...and I feel disrespectful, referring to our former manager solely by his surname, but I was never fortunate enough to meet him and be invited to call him Sean, but if I ever do, I'll waste no time in telling him what a first class job he did here and how sorry I was that his Chairman hung him out to dry.
Rant over...or maybe I'm just getting started

I don’t think it’s particularly controversial to say that things had gone stale under Dyche.
Re: Garlick / dyche or ALK/kompany ?
Garlicky forced the decline by zero investment.
