To counterbalance that we missed at pen at 1-0 which I think would have won us the game. Compare Sunday’s game to the Norwich debacle and it was like night and day and against a way better team. The next 2 home games are the big test. We have to be ahead of Everton after themNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:02 pmWe played some decent stuff in the first half. But fundamentally we should have lost. Pope had to make 3 world class saves just to keep us in it. The defence was all over the place in the second half.
Let’s hope he’s tightened us up for tonight.

True but I think saying we were markedly improved is a bit harsh. I didn’t notice any difference to be honest.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:10 pmTo counterbalance that we missed at pen at 1-0 which I think would have won us the game. Well we were 1 point better and not exactly playing the bottom team in the league. West Ham are semi finalists in the Europa League which gives you some idea of their quality. Maybe we benefited from them playing Lyon on the previous Thursday.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:13 pmTrue but I think saying we were markedly improved is a bit harsh. The Decision to fire Dyche 48 hours before a huge game was truly footballing suicide. I am hoping Pace got lucky

The first half was where you could see the players and coach had input and decided to play it on the ground more. It worked.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:10 pmI suspect West Ham would have still come back. As I said they destroyed us in that second half.
Let’s all just be reasonable. The first half we were half decent, the second half we imploded and pope was world class.
We can’t play like that tonight.
The latter part of the second half was where we were found wanting tactically as we were so often with Dyche. They pushed Antonio into the left channel and both Lowts and Roberts struggled. When the other team gets on top or shifts system, we don’t have the knowledge to react. We need a more technical in-game coach
We need a coach who can respond tactically in-game.

I don't think he'd leave Forest........they have a good thing going there.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 12:08 pmI don't think anyone would argue what Cooper has done at Swansea and Forest counts as "achieved nothing" yet surely, not even on here!
He'd be great, but I just don't think he is going to come here
I'm really trying to think of who I'd like, and I'm struggling
I've got huge lists of who I don't want though!
Much bigger crowds too.

Re: Name the next manager
First post on this thread so sorry if i've not had chance to wade through the 24 or so pages. Still in shock at the sacking of our Sean. That said, i'm not too bothered by the backroom staff going with the exception of Billy Mercer.
With regards to next manager i'd be surprised if it wasn't Allardyce, but for me unless it was a short term until seasons end, i'd be bitterly disappointed. The first person who came into my head was Michael Carrick. We've got a state of the Art training centre, and we need someone who can in part develop our future stars. Another name i'd throw in the ring would be Graeme Jones. I think the guys got something about him and is well respected in the game. I also think Rooney could be a good shout.
Its getting more and more intriguing with every passing day. I just hope the board make the right call.

Pope was world class, but they didn’t come back and win from 0-1 down, so why would they at 0-2 down?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:10 pmI suspect West Ham would have still come back. As I said they destroyed us in that second half.

Getting to be like a transfer window thread this.
Log on hoping for some news. Trawl through pages of discussion on the merits of someone we probably have no interest in and discover there's nothing to report

I think we are all trying to be reasonable but your comments demonstrate a particular tone demeaning much of what we do. You may not be aware of it when you post but that is what comes through fairly often. Should have been two by half time and their reply was a goal that last season would not have been allowed. Yes, a far superior team to us but it requires two teams to provide a competitive game.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:10 pmI suspect West Ham would have still come back. I say that they would have probably caught us regardless based on the fact we have one of the worst records in the league for losing a lead. I believe its 16 points we have lost from winning positions this season.
That second half it was truly a miracle from pope that he kept it down to 1. If that happens tonight it won’t be a good result.

Re: Name the next manager
I'd assume there's no longer any rush. Give it MJ until the end of the season and make sure they get the right man.
Re: Name the next manager
Pace said no one really wants the job on a part time basis. Seems like its MJ and co for now and make sure they get the right man in the summer. A lot will depend on the league we are in too.

There must be a manager able to get a team promoted from the Championship and to keep one in the Premier League. Why does it need to be two managers.

I think we should plan for the ,almost, inevitable relegation.
Carrick for me.
Having said that, if we manage to avoid the almost inevitable then I'd look at an emerging talent from Europe.
