Re: World cup thread
You completely ignored all legitimate points I made and started waffling irrelevant sh*t. I never once said hand Chile or Italy places, infact in the post you quoted I said ''give Asian 2 auto qualifiers, 2 playoff spots and hand the extra 2 spots to the African region''. My point is, it should be the best international teams in the world. It is not about how many teams they have there, it's the opportunity given, you know as well as I do the Asian continent shouldn't get more qualifying opportunities than the Africans when the Africans have 8 more teams in the final qualifying round (group stages) and the African region is far stronger. You really think too many South American teams are there? what is the other alternative???? Do we kick out Uruguay, Peru and Colombia to dump in China, Uzbekistan and Syria?cricketfieldclarets wrote:And neither does the history of Italy or Holland (or anyone elses for that matter Chile et al) who arent good enough to qualify.
I dont now what the issue is. IF anything its The South Americans and Europeans who have too many teams there.
Its a world cup. Its not the best teams in the world cup.
Asia have 5 representatives there. Or around 8% of all of their teams who entered qualifying. That includes Australia which makes it even harder for them as Australia dont enter the Oceania qualifiers.
Africa have 5 also. But thats closer to 10% of those who entered the qualifiers.
North America have 3. Again less than 9%.
Then you have Europe - 13 (26%) and South America who have 5 of their 10 entrants (50%!!!) there.

They dont have more. They have the same. But have more teams who enter, so percentage wise Asia has the least amount of entrants.KRBFC wrote:You completely ignored all legitimate points I made and started waffling irrelevant sh*t. Re: World cup thread
I just think this is embarrassing football from a World Cup tournament and takes the shine off the tournaments prestige. Too many mismatches for my liking, wasting their own time even turning up without any confidence to attack let alone score a goal. Too many teams in the group stages who simply aren't good enough to compete with the majority of the sides in the tournament.Spijed wrote:So you think parking the bus in football should be outlawed in some way?

Why should Iran roll over? Iran have been watching Burnleys defensive qualities well done them there's an art to defending as well as popping the ball into the net in the 91st minute.

Africa 20 in group stages, 5 group winners go through, 0 play off spots. 5 + 0 = ?cricketfieldclarets wrote:They dont have more. They have the same. But have more teams who enter, so percentage wise Asia has the least amount of entrants.
Asia 12 in group stages, 2 groups of 6, top 2 in both groups go through automatically (4), both 3rd placed teams go to playoffs (2). 4 + 2 = ?
Explain how that is the same opportunities for both confeds.......

Re: World cup thread
Yeah but look at the overall strength of the confeds yet Africa get less opportunity to qualify? doesn't make sense to me. I'd have Ghana/Ivory Coast/Algeria here over the Saudis. It's ok saying ''well they're not good enough to qualify'' but the format punishes the African teams, 5 groups of 4, only group winner qualifies. Egypt and Ghana both drawn into the same group, which meant they both couldn't qualify and 1 or 2 bad results gives you little chance of recovery and no opportunity to make up for it because 0 African teams get put into the playoff system.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Because they have to qualify to even enter the group stages.

Why don’t you just turn it off until the knockout starts. It’s like this every time but folk love the odd upset, like Mexico beating Germany.KRBFC wrote:I just think this is embarrassing football from a World Cup tournament and takes the shine off the tournaments prestige. To be honest, some of the Spaniards have been just as bad, and the Portuguese and Uruguayans were even worse. The amount of play acting going on in this World Cup is a feckin disgrace.KRBFC wrote:He's at it again, rolling allover like he's been shot

Yeah it's terrible to watch, Pepe earlier was an absolute embarrassment and should be banned. I'm glad the PL isn't really like this, certainly nowhere near as bad anyway.Claret wrote:To be honest, some of the Spaniards have been just as bad, and the Portuguese and Uruguayans were even worse. Yeah it's terrible even though it got the decision correct, the Iranians went celebrating like they won the World Cup only to stand around waiting... I'd rather they just gave Iran the goal.dermotdermot wrote:VAR is crap.
Re: World cup thread
Hard to blame VAR for the celebrations, the linesman was flagging for offside.
