Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
Didn't know that Mee was entirely left-footed. That explains some of the errant passes that he makes while under pressure. As for Tarkowski, I disagree with any suggestion that he was horrible at the end of the year. To this eye, he fit in perfectly.

Latest talk is Keane has agreed terms with both United and Everton but as someone has said a few posts ago, United are more likely to get Lindoff.

United have agreed a deal with Lindelof so I doubt Keane is going there now.

Surely though to have agreed terms then Burnley must have accepted bids from both United and Everton?Quickenthetempo wrote:Latest talk is Keane has agreed terms with both United and Everton but as someone has said a few posts ago, United are more likely to get Lindoff.
Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
Latest talk my arse !
Everton are going to have £100m in their back sack soon and need a centre back (or 2) so link to Keane is logical - especially as Koeman has publically said it !
United link also obvious.
But I bet neither club have approached Burnley FC - and until they have and we are happy with the offer then Keane will not have agreed terms with anyone.
Just in case anyone forgot Keane is still employed by Burnley.

Simon Stone of the BBC now reporting Keane to United is a 100% a no go.

No, as long as Burnley have given him permission to talk to Man U and Everton, it's fine. Of course, if Keane agrees terms and then Burnley refuse to sell, then Burnley are risking a very unhappy Keane being left on the books; which suggests that Burnley may have agreed a fee, or come close.Braindead wrote:Surely though to have agreed terms then Burnley must have accepted bids from both United and Everton?

United have had an offer accepted for Victor Lindelof according to Sky and say United will not be getting any more central defenders . Now Everton are in for Keane

So you think Keane will have agreed terms with 2 clubs at the same time despite the fact that neither have agreed a fee with Burnley or even made an offer / approach.Quickenthetempo wrote:Are you new to how football works?
Why would he need or want do that ?
We all know he is leaving - when there is a concrete approach he can talk to the clubs who make offers.

Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
Of course his agent will have spoken to clubs and proposed the wages etc. That's what agents do. Virgil van dyke situation was different because klopp had a meeting with him without fees being agreed. There is no way an players agent can't meet and place what the player expects in the event of a move.TVC15 wrote:So you think Keane will have agreed terms with 2 clubs at the same time despite the fact that neither have agreed a fee with Burnley or even made an offer / approach.

Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
I'm sure the agent will be talking to clubs off the record and letting them all know the kind of deal Keane is expecting. That's a bit different though to saying Keane has agreed terms with Everton and United.
If terms were all agreed at this stage why is it that after an offer is made and accepted we always have to wait for personal terms to be agreed after the players medical ?

The likely situation is that United have told his agent they will pay him 60k a week if he signs to double/triple his current wages and they will have jumped at it. Everton will of spoke to the agent and said 60k a week is agreed and they said we will match it.
If United or Everton only offered a 10% wage rise the agent would wait until the fee agreed hoping for a few clubs to join in to strengthen his hand.

Sky Sports News HQ understands the deal for Victor Lindelof means United will no longer pursue another centre-back.

But we understand United will not be signing two centre-backs this summer.

Re: keano poss good news
If Keane wants to play for United - he should sign a year extension with us - possibly with an agreed sale next summer at an agreed price - it is highly likely Keane will by then have learned from his mistakes this season and pushed on again and Mourinho will have had enough of Jones and/or Smalling

Serious question... any chance we could actually get to the start of the season with MK still here and us in with a chance of keeping him?

There is a chance yes, but it would only be for the season because he's going either this summer, January or next summer.

Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
Would love him to play for us next season but If a move is to happen which looks likely I'd rather it be sorted sooner rather than later so we can add the cash to the transfer war chest.
Avoids losing potential signing because 'We couldn't make X deal until Y deal was agreed' as the deadline approaches.

Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
Story I have is he is happy to stay next season and let his contract run down, then he pockets the 20 or so million as a sign on fee or increased wages.
So it could be he is still here next season.
Either way I will be happy as long as he plays as well next season as he did this.

Sign a new 3 year contract with Burnley - pay rise and reasonable release clause. Show his class in Burnley's second season in the Premier League. Become regular starter for England and put in a great performance in World Cup 2018 (alongside Tom Heaton). Join whoever he wants for 2018/19 season - or decent loyalty bonus if he remains with the Clarets. Either way we will all be winners.

Unfortunately they don't, agents do and for that reason Keane will not be a Claret next season.

Though wasn't it Carling that did the first series of great ads with humour? "Refreshes the parts other lagers cannot reach!"
(Guinness did the great arty ads).

Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
Pickford has just gone to Everton for 30mill, I like the lad, but he isn't worth as much as Keane. Where does that leave us in valuation terms.
Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
Exactly where we were. £25 million or thereabouts.Colburn_Claret wrote:Pickford has just gone to Everton for 30mill, I like the lad, but he isn't worth as much as Keane. Where does that leave us in valuation terms.
Pickford signed a long term contract with Sunderland last year, expiring in 2020, so his valuation is always going to be much higher than Keane right now.

Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
I know what you mean but still disagree. The gut feeling says transfer fees are going to shoot up again this window. We'll probably need a couple of 20mill pound players, just to stand still.
If we let Keane go for 25mill we'll be muppets. I'd rather he went for free next summer than allow someone to rip us off.

Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
The only way we'll get more than £25m is if we have a bidding war between two or more clubs. In that scenario we might push towards £30m but certainly no higher. If he had a long term contract like Pickford then I fully expect we wouldn't be looking to sell for anything less than £50m (in line with the Stones deal) but we're not in the driving seat here. If Keane's agent starts pushing for a move, which I think he will, by saying Keane is unhappy and wants to leave to further his International chances etc etc then we'll just need to get what we can. I'm convinced he'll be gone and it'll be for nothing more than £25m.

Not sure that Express article is right. All the info suggested he was mad keen for a move to United.
I reckon he'll be thinking very carefully where to go now.

Given the reported value of Maguire I'd say we should hold out for a lot better than £25m.
Re: Bidding war for £25m-rated Michael Keane
I suspect clubs might come calling later in the summer for Keane. The closer to September we get the more chance he leaves on a free next summer ad I'm not sure that's something our Board would want to see happen. I'd love him to stay but the fact remains that even with the TV money we get these days we can't ignore the potential sale of a player for £20m plus. We still need to accept who we are and our overall financial standing in this league. £20m is a huge sum of money.Loyalclaret wrote:According to Burnley FC as of this morning they have not been contacted by any clubs about our players.
