Here's a compeling piece of writing on Reddit that explains why the author thinks Jaime is Azor Ahai. It has me convinced because it also gives the Jaime character a purpose.

All the other main characters have a clearly definable reason for being. Dany's being to sit on the throne, Tyrion's being to help her sit there, Jon's being to lead the North/avenge his family/discover his real ancestry, Cersei's to be the mad Queen, Arya's to reunite with her family/avenge her parents and brothers. But what is Jaime's? The only one i can think of is that the whole story is really about his redemption having started out as a prancing **** who we all hated to becoming a character we all love. And that fits with GRRM's comment that the most interesting thing to write about is "the human heart in conflict with itself". The purposes of the other main characters and their goals isn't really about the human heart in conflict with itself as Jaime's whole story is, if anything the other characters' stories are all about conflict with other people, not themselves, and if the theory i've linked to is correct then Jaime's conflict with himself (or who he was) becomes even more interesting.

I have seen 3 clips on Facebook today, one stating Tyrion is Azor Ahai, one saying Jon and the other Daenerys and now this piece of writing.

I believe Tyrion, Jon and Daenerys are the three heads of the dragon but no one can predict anything about the Azor Ahai as there is to much evidence/theories, which show it could be any of them.

I think the hound will prove to be Azor Ahai. It all goes back to his maiming with fire at the hands of the mountain.

You know that's not how it works. People (I) open this thread to see what others are saying about the most recent episode. It's at the very least courteous to alert people at the beginning of your post of any potential spoilers or speculation. Perhaps if you're a book reader or if you read the subreddit certain things might not come as a surprise, but that speculation can completely ruin the element of surprise for people (like me) who enjoy watching the show with a whiff of ignorance. What you posted in your first sentence is now in my head. If it comes to fruition, it doesn't have the same impact. I'm not saying don't discuss it, I'm saying put a caps lock "POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD" or something at the beginning of speculative posts. It isn't an unreasonable request.

edit- I've just re-read your post and I have realised that you might have thought I clicked on the reddit link. I haven't. I'm referring to your first sentence re. Jamie/AA. I'd rather have not even contemplated that. I know it's only a theory, but all I'm asking is a spoiler tag so idiots like me who make an effort to be surprised don't stumble across anything they might not want to.

The *****************SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Gendry actor being spotted in Ireland

END SPOILER**************************

has already killed one potential surprise moment for me.

I recommend you avoid the inevitable "Predictions vrs. Chelsea" thread tomorrow because no one ever posts spoiler alerts in there.

The element of surprise were that to come to fruition. That's quite important to me in this show. Sad as it sounds, GOT is the highlight of my week.

Like I say, I'm not saying don't discuss it. Just that a 'speculation/spoiler' tag like on subreddits at the top of posts would be appreciated.

Speculation ot future outcomes based on past performances in football isn't that much different to speculation of future outcomes based on past episodes.

I'm going to write a strongly worded email to the writers on your behalf for spoiling a possible surprise for you by having Melisandre openly predict that Jon Snow is Azor Ahai. You must've been throwing your shoes at the telly when that happened.

Hang in a minute, much as I like to dislike imploding titwank, he posted nothing but a small piece of conjecture and a link to someone's thoughts.

It's in absolutely no way a spoiler and if you can't stop reading someone's thoughts after the first sentence then that's your problem

Yet she didn't predict what you linked, which is entirely my point. I like being led along by the writers. It's the whole point of narrative structure.

Am I really being so unreasonable to ask for a quick "SPOILERS/SPECULATION" at the top of a post containing spoilers or speculation?

As stated, I didn't open the link. I'm quite a fast reader and like the overwhelming majority of people who skim-read I read chunks of sentences rather than individual words so I couldn't really avoid reading the headline of the theory in the post. I hadn't even considered that as a theory. Now it's in my mind, it's underwhelming (for me, for reasons stated) if it happens.

Again, am I being so unreasonable to ask for a bit of a potential spoiler notice, here? It's about twenty strokes of a keyboard, for fu.cks sake.

So you've been considering theories too? :?: Do you spoiler alert yourself each time you think of them?

I'm sorry that i find this funny. I like you, i do. but, you know, i like laughing more.

Edit: When it turns out that the White Walker religion is called Spiralism and is why they are obsessed with making spirals, are you going to report yourself to the mods because you're a spoiler?

Nope. Like I said above, I try to avoid thinking about it and just try to enjoy the episodes week-by-week, sad and dumb and ignorant as that sounds.

***SPOIER*** Certain actor spotted in Ireland ***SPOILER*** posted earlier in the thread without any spoiler notice pi$$Ed me off a bit. You did something that could be loosely spoiler related on the Mr.Robot thread a while back, too, IIRC.

I like you, turtle, (probs more than most on here), but I think you're on face-saving territory, here. I'm only asking for a few button mashes of a keyboard. Tell me how I'm being so unreasonable.

Not nitpicking. I'm a sad c.unt who loves GOT. I used to like reading these threads for discussion on the last episode. Felt communal, sad as that sounds. Didn't want it ruined by spoiler-tag-free speculation, like.

How can speculation ruin anything?

And everything discussed is based on someone's thoughts from what's already happened.

What about Jon Snow being Denys brother though? That seems obvious but I don't know what it will mean

SPOILER (Yes, I'm doing this)

Gendry actor being spotted in Ireland during filming

END SPOILER.

How in the f.uck is that not a potential spoiler? Jesus H Christ, reddit has the decency to tag speculation with a spoiler tag for idiots like me who like to watch ignorant of speculation. But I'm repeating myself. Whatevs. This is more haste than it's worth. I'm done.

I'm not disagreeing with you on that one, i'm disagreeing that speculation about the future of characters based on what has previously happened in the show are spoilers.
