Ings coming back from his injuries wouldn't be a big upgrade so unlikely to be him.

Re: New striker incoming
IMO a half fit Danny Ings is better than Andre Gray.
We've been blessed with strikers over the last few years. Jay Rod, Austin, Ings. They were all better than AG.
It won't be hard to find a better striker, it's how much we would have to pay for him is the question.

Deeney earns 3 times more than we pay, never gonna happen
Re: New striker incoming
I'd love Ings back but it would only be on a season loan with a view to a permanent deal, should he prove his fitness.

Deeney is a great player, but isn't fit and getting on now. I'd prefer someone younger myself, Walters has brought in the experience we needed, want we want now is someone who's hungry.

Re: New striker incoming
We haven't even managed to bring in an adequate replacement for Keane, despite having several months to do so, and the season starts on Saturday. Again, we were told that there were plenty of decent central defenders available.
What about that striker at Lincoln he's always hungry.

Not what I meant. Even if we got him back for what Liverpool paid it would be far too big a risk for a player who's had 4 major knee injuries.gawthorpe_view wrote:Surely we can afford to buy him.
A loan would seem to make a lot of sense for all parties. Liverpool wrapping him in cotton wool at the moment though, from what I've heard.

Re: New striker incoming
Always liked Ings but a fully-fit Andre Gray has got a good pre-season behind him we need someone to come in who is ready for the PL - not someone finding their way back to form and fitness.
For everyone dismissing the likes of Redmond and Bony (who fit the OP's criteria) we've just cleared nearly £50M for two of our biggest assets so we are in the market for players of that calibre.
We will also have been well aware of Gray's pending departure so imagine most if not all of the background work on his potential replacement has already been done.

Don't disagree with this. However, if we were to loan Ings, I'd want us to sign another striker as well. He's obviously prone to injuries and it would be a disaster if we rested our laurels entirely on him (good player though he is).scouseclaret wrote:Not what I meant. I think we do. I want to see Walters used in Boyd's place and Agyei out on loan to gain further experience.taio wrote:We certainly don't need two strikers.
As such, Barnes, Vokes and a new signing still isn't a whole lot of options. I wanted a new striker before Gray was sold. However, I don't think we'll be signing two strikers, unfortunately.

How do you arrive at clearing nearly £50 m from the sale of Keane and Gray.Keane I believe was £25 with £6m approx to united.Could rise by another £5m I believe.Gray could rise to £18m.Quite a bit short of £50mEarbyClaret wrote:Always liked Ings but a fully-fit Andre Gray has got a good pre-season behind him we need someone to come in who is ready for the PL - not someone finding their way back to form and fitness.

Do we think gray was sold by dyche, or the board eyeing the money with only 1 year left? Got to be the latter only 2 days before the season.

Earby said we've cleared nearly £50m on the sale of the 2 not including Darikwa. We could potentially receive £42 but £5m of Keane's sale and possible £6m of Gray's is not guaranteed.Even with your figure it's £7m short of £50 which is a lot of money.bfccrazy wrote:Thats a potential 43 with Darikwa added in and you're closing in on 50 mil .....

I wasnt tryjng to be pedantic but it shows how much money we potentially have to play with, however the incomings for transfers wont be in one go usually - plus the dry powder we have ...... We have a budget that could potentially make us all wet our pants but the board won't e wanting to clear our mountains of dry powder just yet.
