Re: Winger replacements
I don't think Delph or Rooney played better when they were moved. They will still be better players in their natural positions.

Junior Bent on loan! He was Robbie Bradyesque.

Re: Winger replacements
A possibility Dyche will switch Gudmundsson to the left, play Hendrick on the right and put Arfield `in the hole` (which I reckon is a better position for him anyway) behind Wood?

This ^^^ is most likely.HiroshimaClaret wrote:A possibility Dyche will switch Gudmundsson to the left, play Hendrick on the right and put Arfield `in the hole` (which I reckon is a better position for him anyway) behind Wood?
...with Defour and Gudmundsson on set pieces / free kicks.
Bench could be interesting choices? / options.
Plus I really hope Ben Mee is fit and able. He'd be a huge massive loss imho given our options.
(I'd also love to see us try Defour further up the pitch at some point with maybe Westwood in with Cork)

Re: Winger replacements
I’d play Ward in Brady’s place and bring Charlie in at left back
Re: Winger replacements
Pione Sisto would be perfect

Re: Winger replacements
In terms of players swapping positions, I don't deny that it happens, nor even that its worth the manager trying behind closed doors - but its a long way from that to advocating that he plays a player out of position on a Saturday.
Rooney is an interesting one. It seems to me that its relatively common for flexible forwards to be capable of playing both down the middle or up front, although clearly this doesn't apply to a target man, for example. Full backs have sometimes been converted into defensive midfielers, similarly. But I think there are relatively few examples of career defenders in their mid-20s being converted into attacking players, or indeed vice versa. Its a huge shift requiring a completely different appreciation of the football pitch and a very different skill set in terms of positioning and similar skills. The fact that someone exceptional like Bale has done it at a young age doesn't for a second give any reason to believe that anyone can do it, at any age. Older dogs and new tricks, and all that.

Re: Winger replacements
Lazar Markovic has to be worth a look in January. I said as much in August but he's still at Liverpool doing nothing. He's highly unlikely to get a run in the team, similar to Danny Ings it seems. I'd happily take Ings in the number 10 role and Markovic on the wing!

Re: Winger replacements
Now the injury to Brady is confirmed as long term, perhaps a look at Tom Lawrence currently at Derby wouldn't go amiss. Career seems to be developing nicely.

Re: Winger replacements
Yes. I saw him play left wing under Redfearn. 14/15 season I think it was. I couldn't remember the opposition, so went and found this: http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/03/08/ch ... sion-to-m/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;claretspice wrote:Out of interest, those wanting Taylor to play as a left winger: have you ever seen him play there before?
The 21-year-old Leeds star impressed down the left wing against Wigan.
Sometimes, a selection dilemma for a football manager can be the best possible situation.
For Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn, that's currently the case with Charlie Taylor.
Redfearn's squad is stretched at the moment due to injuries, meaning the Yorkshire side has been the subject of various player and position shuffles in recent weeks.
Taylor, 21, has been one of those shuffles, being moved from left-back to left-wing for Leeds. And, as Opta stats show, he impressed against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
Taylor, who was involved in the build-up to Alex Mowatt's winner, completed more final-third passes than anyone bar Mowatt himself and entered the final third more times than any of Leeds' key players.
With 52 touches, the young star was also heavily involved overall at the DW Stadium, while he still didn't neglect the defensive side of the game, making more interceptions than anyone bar Gaetano Berardi.
"I like it," Taylor told BBC Radio Leeds of his new position. "When I play full-back, I like to get forward anyway. I try to help out with whoever is at full-back and I've enjoyed it this last couple of games."

Super Scotty Arfield.cricketfieldclarets wrote:The criticism of Arfield on here is bizarre.
Dyches mantra is the minimum requirement is maximum effort. And Arfield epitomises that as well as what the team and the club are all about.
Knoes the system inside out. Knows whats expected. Works very hard. Tries to be creative. And scores some exciting and important goals.
He will also have a point to prove. Hes been a great player for hs down the years and i hope we have him for a few more yet. He was fantastic at spurs playing in the hole and is one of our players who will try things.
Hopefully we get another winger in. We needed one even with Brady. But for the next 4 weeks ive no issue having Arfield. Hopefully he makes it impossible for whoever does come in to take the oppprtunity from him.
Re: Winger replacements
Pione Sisto. Suggested him for a long time now, great winger.

Mark Duffy looked good for the blades last night - although one swallow doesn’t make a summer!
Scrap that - he’s 32!!!

Re: Winger replacements
Does anyone still think we need to improve on Arfield while Brady is out?A goal and an assist in two games? You can't ask much more than that. If it was Brady that provided that people would be ecstatic.

Re: Winger replacements
I for one do. Yes Scotty is a great player but for me I want a winger to hug the touchline and have the speed to beat a man. I am not saying he is no longer needed as he is and would rather him be playing Hendrick at the moment. We saw how effective we can be with 2 proper wingers in Brady's last few games. I know he has contributed massively in last games and at the moment deserves his shirt. But a young backup wouldnt do us any harmsuperdimitri wrote:Does anyone still think we need to improve on Arfield while Brady is out?A goal and an assist in two games? Re: Winger replacements
Of course we need more reinforcements - apart from anything else, we've no-one to come on and influence the game from the bench in wide areas, and if one of Defour or Cork were to be out, the option of moving Hendrick back into a deeper central midfield role and moving Arfield inside just isn't available to us at the moment.
That said, Arfield has done well in the last two games - two match winning contributions in a goal and an assist. Not sure anyone could have expected more, and certainly many on here clearly expected a lot less.
