What do you think is maintaining the status quo (or as close as you're ever gonna get) in the Middle East?
It's not mutual respect, let me tell you that sunshine!

I'm quite aware of what is maintaining the status quo. I just don't think the status quo should be maintained. An ally of ours should deserve to be an ally of ours.

An interesting article on Britain's arms trade. Some of our biggest customers are countries with which we profoundly disagree on the subject of human rights. Of interest might be the levels of subsidy the industry gets from the taxpayer, and the fact we usually provide lines of credit that leave the taxpayer responsible if the buyer neglects to pay in full.

Re: World War 3
The US has picked sides in the Middle East, and that is and always has been their problem. There is nothing wrong with stepping back to reevaluate, reconsider, and rethink. If America did this their alliances with Israel and Saudi might be used to curb excesses by those countries, and rapproachment with Iran might be pushed forward. The cumulative result could be a reduction in tension in the region, and meaningful talks to end the Syrian Civil War.starting_11 wrote:What do you think is maintaining the status quo (or as close as you're ever gonna get) in the Middle East?

Division in the middle East has been around longer than America... But blame them randomly for everything if it makes you feel good
Re: World War 3
I didn't actually say anything was America's fault, but their foreign policy positions stand in the way of them being able to help bring peace to the region.

We should just keep out of Arab politics and the middle east in general. They are tribal, have family groups, and have such strong religious persuasions that we in the west cannot comprehend . History has shown strong dictators bring stability.
