Europa League Seedings
Re: Europa League Seedings
They've only been going a few years, with a few lower leagues to their belt.
Would be like playing Hoffenheim or one of those other nothing clubs.

I want somewhere at least a flight away. How good will it be going to airport and seeing claret and blue everywhere. It’ll be brilliant. Rangers wouldn’t be too bad mind. It’ll be written arfield scores the winner thoughDazzler wrote:Glasgow Rangers ?

Re: Europa League Seedings
As I understand it the top 5 seeds and bottom 5 seeds (based on the expectation that the higher rated team wins QR1) are put in pot 1 and drawn against each other. The same happens to the next 5 seeded teams (which will include us) and the next lowest 5 seeded teams, etc etc etc. Thus we will not be drawn against any of the Scottish teams.

Hope we get Molde, especially if it's raining, since Moss didn't make it. Will give great headline material for the gutter press.

Are we looking for the most attractive away tie during the qualifying phase? personally i'm hoping for the easiest possible game until we reach the group stage.Dy1geo wrote:Looking at the seedings etc in round 2 unless we draw a Scottish side there are not that many “attractive” away ties. However if we get to play off round and the games go as per the seedings given the teams listed at present there is only Besitkas that I wouldn’t fancy going to and I can see many fans “hoping” we get that far and that will be the one most decide to do the “away” leg.

Seem to be random with the seedings & non seeds though.

I originally missed out Ireland.Dazzler wrote:For all those who are dreaming of a possible trip to the San Siro in the group stages;you might want to hope that we do not draw a team from any one of these nations early on:

Teams from those countries that we could possibly draw might only be of League 2 standard at best ; but they will be 15-20 games into their season.

I would like the “easiest ties” to get through but the point I was making if the results go as per seedings if we get to the play off rounds going off the link that was posted above we are likely to be non seeded in that round and there is only Besitkas of the seeded teams I wouldn’t fancy going to.KRBFC wrote:Are we looking for the most attractive away tie during the qualifying phase? personally i'm hoping for the easiest possible game until we reach the group stage.

Re: Europa League Seedings
Last time I put the teams up who were likely to be seeded above us, it was before the excellent post above explaining that teams get split into pots of 5 (i.e. if we just about fail to be seeded, we will get one of the teams seeded slightly above us, not one at the top like Sevilla), IF we get through the first two rounds. I'm hypothesising that because there are only 13 seeds in the play offs, there are only 3 teams in the 3rd and 4th pots (who knows?).
So....I've added the coefficient for each team in my earlier list and sorted them, and guessed the pots. The ones in red are the ones I think we would be likely to draw in the play offs (OR the unseeded team that beat them in Q3, because the draw is done before Q3). We should get a Pot 2 team or a Pot 3 team if we get lucky and some get knocked out (or a minnow and we get REALLY lucky with the minnow knocking out one of these big teams in Q3). Let's see if that proves correct!
Sorry if this is a bit complex, blame UEFA. This guess is just for the nerdy types like me who think this is fun
Definitely qualified :
113,000 Sevilla (Spain) POT 1
78,000 FC Zenit (Russia) POT 1
57,000 Besiktas (Turkey) POT 1
54,000 Olympiacos (Greece) POT 1
40,000 Sporting Lisbon (Portugal) POT 1

17,000 Red Bull Leipzig (Germany) POT 5
17,000 FK Partizan (Serbia) POT 5

Probably (depending on future games):
34,500 Sparta Prague (Czech) POT 2
34,000 FC Copenhagen (Denmark) POT 2
29,500 PAOK (Greece) (the most likely Champions League exit) POT 2
27,000 Genk (Belgium) POT 3

I've given up looking at who we may get.
We're not even forced to get a team who play on the European continent.
As long as it's not one of the Asian teams or land grabbing Middle East
teams, then I'm alright with it.

Part of that was looking at last year’s draw too, along with last year’s coefficients, and I noticed that there was indeed a pattern as the above poster suggested, that sides who were lower in the seeding got drawn against a side not far below them who were unseeded. Unless persuaded otherwise, I’m leaning towards thinking that the split into pots is correct, and thus the sides in red I have highlighted are the ones that it is most likely we would play if we get that far. I hope I’m right, I’m basing my holiday plans around it

(Coincidentally, this could also be why two English teams, West Ham being one, have in recent years been knocked out by identical opposition two years on the trot - because UEFAs system only has a narrow range of sides each team could play).

Apologies if this has already been listed, but the Wiki page now shows the seedings for the Europa League so we can now definitely see some of the teams we won't be drawn against.

Re: Europa League seedings
The 5 teams we could get drawn against if UEFA follow their usual draw system of using pots of 10 are: Irtysh Pavlodar & Kairat from Kazakhstan, Rangers & Hibs from Scotland and Shakhtyor Soligorsk from Belarus - or rather the winner of their 1st qualifying round ties.
