Re: Pickford
Cracking save even if it resulted in the equaliser.
Outstanding in pens.
Can’t knock him at all.
Still behind Mr Pope though obvs.

Re: Pickford
Can't put any blame on Pickford tonight or throughout the tournament, and even with Italy's equaliser he was unfortunate that his save hit the post and dropped for their guy to prod in.
So unlucky to save 2 pens in the shootout, and yet still end up on the losing side, but Donnarumma was immense for Italy throughout, and he rightly has been named Uefa's 'player of the tournament'.

Re: Pickford
Pickford did well on the whole, I thought Pope would have saved the goal (with his feet) but it was still a reasonable save and that save from Jorginho was top, top class. He didn’t deserve to lose that shootout (Rashford’s dancing exhibition did).

Re: Pickford
No. Pope wouldn't have got the rebound save but he might have got a bigger hand on the first and pushed it for a corner.
He wouldn't have saved 2 pens though

Re: Pickford
Agree. Its a good save. Not blaming Pickford at all. Crosspool thought Pope would have saved the goal with his feet. I disagreed but said he might have got more round the save and pushed it wide.
I blame Mount mostly who was shocking defensively for the goal (but that isn't his strength and probably why he shouldn't have been in the starting 11 tonight against a tricky and physical side

Pickford was good tonight. He's made me a fan and a deserved number 1 in my eyes.

Re: Pickford
He played well.
The only observation I have is how often he ends up on his knees....weird bit of technique but I'm not knocking him.

Re: Pickford
Not the goal, Pope would have saved the first effort with his feet, the one that Pickford saved low. That was always one to take with his feet not his hands. The goal afterwards was unsavable.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 11:38 pmAgree. Its a good save. Not blaming Pickford at all. Crosspool thought Pope would have saved the goal with his feet. Can’t really blame him tonight though - the errors were elsewhere.

Re: Pickford
Ah. See what you mean.
Re: Pickford
Crosspool has been nothing but about negative about England all tournament long, of course he thinks Pope would've saved it. What did Mount do? I thought Kane on the line with Trippier losing that header at the front post was weird, I assume that wasn't planned.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 11:38 pmAgree. Its a good save. Re: Pickford
I though Mount could have been stronger for the header that Pickford saved. He's in front but loses the man and then outmuscled.
Overall it was fine margins tonight and on another night we see that out 1-0 or even turn one of our decent openings into a proper chance.
Rashers though what was he thinking???

2 Italians got in front of our defenders, Mount and Maguire?BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 12:13 amI though Mount could have been stronger for the header that Pickford saved. He's in front but loses the man and then outmuscled.

Re: Pickford
OK, I wasn't sure.
But if 2 players get goalside of your defence that close in you are highly likely to concede.
The save from Pickford was excellent, a fraction stronger hand and it's a corner...

Re: Pickford
Yep. He's unlucky there.
Re: Pickford
Yeah small margins, they didn't really look like scoring (Italy) so with 30 to go, I was pretty confident we'd hang on and potentially nick one on the break. Apart from a pretty routine Pickford save down to his left from Chiesa, I thought we dealt with them pretty well in our final third. 1 set piece, the marking was a little allover the place, a fortunate bounce and bang it's 1-1 game on.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 12:13 amI though Mount could have been stronger for the header that Pickford saved. I think if Rashford scores we win, him missing just amplified the pressure on the final 2. He did everything right (Rashford), the dummy/fake run up sold the keeper down the river and left him 2/3s of the goal to slide it into, then he somehow scuffs it.

Re: Pickford
Stones was dragged to the floor for a start... and basically pinned there. Foul.
The rest bad luck in chaos
