Coachmakers and Prince Albert they were around where Halfords is now.
The Prince Albert was on Curzon St., I went in there several times. The Coachmakers, I’m fairly certain, was on Adelphi St.: I had a few dates with a girl who worked as a barmaid there back in the 60s.

Spot on Vino. Both were basically terraced houses converted to pubs.

Coachmakers, Queens, Reindeer, they were the closest pubs to Stoneyholme in the 60s and thankfully were very accommodating for 15 year olds. Many apprenticeships were served in those watering holes

What are hoping to do if you get a pass at the end of the 4 years? Have you got something planned?

Nothing. Just doing the PhD for interest. May do a book on my WW2 topic. Not sure. Was also diagnosed with rectum cancer 10 months ago, so the study is keeping me occupied while I have treatment.

Ok fair enough. Sorry to hear about the cancer. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer just over 5 years ago, it required major surgery but I appear to be winning the battle, fingers crossed.

I dont really want to put my name on here but yes we were in the same class at Teds. I was a big mate of another lad who emigrated to Australia, Paul Millar.

No worries. I keep in touch with Mill on a regular basis. He lives across the other side of the country - Victoria.

There may well have been an old pub approx there prior to the town centre demolition/rebuild?
No, the actual building (post town centre redevelopment) which is now Clinton's was the pub. Seems weird to think about it I agree, but developers obviously thought it was a good idea to incorporate at pub in a shopping mall! Broadsword was also there in the new shopping centre and the entrance was through the small news kiosk next to Poundland (or whatever that shop is now) just where you go under the tunnel/passageway and past the public loos. Broadsword was a VERY rough pub!!!

See earlier post - The Empress Hotel was there-ish before demolition (my friend has a photo) - that's where the name Empress Grill came from.
