The goal clearly meant to a lot to him. He's settled in nicely and looks a super player already.

He looks a decent player, but any striker wants to get off the mark for their new club, as the longer they go without scoring the pressure can build, thankfully he's opened his account now, and hopefully that'll be the first of many in a Clarets shirt.

I'm guessing that bet hasn't come in very often ;)
I also had £1 on Weghorst first goal and 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 and 1-1 but 3-0 gave me the best odds !!
Thank you Connor for hitting the bar before Wout scored and thank you assistant referee for disallowing Dwight's late goal - 4-0 was not on the coupon !!

He has made both Alan Shearer’s and WhoScored’s teams of the week. Brownhill also made the WS one while Collins made AS’s.

I don’t know actually. It’s an old song I think. Ripped off from the Wayne Rooney song.

Tony Cascarino has Wout and Connor Roberts in his team of the week. Some guy called Kane alongside Weghorst.

And Winter's Weekend Wonders (Times) has "Burnley still in with a shout with Wout."

"Weghorst arrived with perfect timing, at the club and in the box."

Picked up this snippet from a pre Match preview

“Weghorst has had the most shots (nine), created the most chances (five) and had the joint-most touches in the opposition box (13) of any Burnley player since his debut for the club. He netted his first goal for the Clarets at Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, with each of his last 83 league goals coming from inside the box.”

If you were going to be critical you could ask given the stats why hasn’t he scored more goals?

I think so too. The last couple of signings have certainly raised a few eyebrows of supporters of more established clubs and high profile journos.

Using the Vokes/Ings chant from a few years back (obviously with the obligatory hand movements as well, and pronou ncing Wouti as it sounds VOWTIE)
"Maxwell Maxwell Maxwell
Maxwell Maxwell Maxwell
MAXWELL CORNET!
Woutie Woutie Woutie
Woutie Woutie Woutie
BIG WOUT WEGHORST!
and repeat ad infinitum! Using the calming hands for the first bit then going all Oompah pah for the second part.
This but with Maxi, Maxi, Maxi...
Maxwell Cornet.

He hasn't really had great chances yet, aside from the Liverpool one where he ran the length of the pitch just to get there. Watford game were barely half chances, the semi half chance where he Bergkamp touched it one side of the defender and went the other was sublime skill, there was no chance of him scoring there though, the keeper had already covered pretty much all possible angles, wind ended up blowing it onto the crossbar.

I've not seen this link posted on here before. It seems like they didn't have much choice but to sell him because of his vaccination status.

Apparently a lot of teams were put off by it and we are one of the few teams left that do not check vaccination status of players. It might explain why we got him so cheap and why there wasn't a queue of clubs looking to sign him

Potential to be the best player I’ve ever seen play for us.

Hyperbole? Yes, absolutely - HOWEVER - the technical qualities Wout has are on another level to any player I’ve seen for us bar Steven Defour. How the **** did we get him?

Yep! cheers Eddie. :D swapping Wood for Wout, and bagging over £10m in the process, it seems we might now have to pay the extra £2m in the event of staying up, but that'll be well worth it.

He seemed to get bullied against United in that first half and walked off dejected - he came out and very early in the 2nd half he just flattened McTominay …. Since then he (and the whole team) has been on fire.

There are moments in a game that has turned the tide and it’s usually a big tackle/foul that gets us going. Reminded me of the Barton tackle on Kayal a few years ago.

Bardsley on that West Ham winger, was it Fernandes?
Never went anywhere near Bards after that, like playing against 10 men.

This guy is an all round proper centre forward with top level skills, awareness and touch. To get him for 12m is an absolute steal. When you add in his attitude he is pretty much as good as we could hope to have playing for us.

An absolute beast of a signing! What a great player Wout is. His running and desire must help drive the team. We’re playing far less long balls with him in the side too.

He's made a big difference no doubt, but one man doesn't make a team, and others have also upped their game considerably.
