They may turn over £18m but I’d be amazed if they could afford to sponsor a top end Championship club.
That was my first thought but the previous references on here to it “being a classic” tie in. A very underwhelming sponsor from a small company though. Can’t imagine they’ve paid more than a few hundred k? I think we were getting £7.5m from Lovebet!!?

I’m surprised we couldn’t attract a better sponsor with VK’s arrival and the rebuild, really.

Firstly, I think it’s dreadful but I’m older and do prefer a more traditional shirt. I just can’t grasp how anyone could like that mess.

Someone mentioned a different sponsor for the away kit. That’s something I heard a while ago although I’d no idea who either of the sponsors are.
Definitely a different sponsor on away

Think of all the gambling issues that will go away though now it isn't on the front of our shirt.

Only themselves to blame for fannying about for so long before launching it.
Absolutely this. It gets leaked every year because the club seem incapable of releasing it in good time.

You can’t release something until you’ve got something to release. We’ve only just secured a sponsor.

Strange. Why would companies want to sponsor home but not away? Or visa versa?

Different again for the third kit?

Indeed. Who was the guy last year who thought we’d done away with the betting sponsor because of an open ended tweet from Pace?

Or release the kit sponsor less and offer fans that want it adding to get it added free of charge.

Can't do that, it would make it even more difficult to get a sponsor then if shirts were being sold without their logo on.

The last time we had two different sponsors was in 2003/04 season. It was Lanway on the home shirt and VK on the away shirt, but if we played in clret and blue away we had a home shirt with VK on.

These days it's three shirts - might depend whether both of the others are with the same sponsor or not.

It seems very strange that a team amongst the favourites for promotion, that has spent the last 6 years in the top flight, that has brought in a high profile manager, has struggled to get sponsorship.

There’s a few things that I expected Pace to really make his mark on in terms of increasing revenue, this is one of them. Now I know you take a hit when relegated so that makes it harder but still, struggling to get a sponsor doesn’t sound great, in our position.

This isn’t a dig at Pace, merely an observation.

For this curmudgeonly near 60 year old it looks ghastly and the sponsor is very ironic. There again if we keep winning in it, no doubt it will start to grow on me!

I thought the same. I really thought this commercial side would be an area we made the biggest strides in, but appear to be going backwards.

I like the badge, the shirt is from league 4 in the 70’s, and as someone pointed out the blue of the shirt doesn’t match the blue on the badge.
It’s not good to look at.

It didn't but they weren't overjoyed about doing that. If you want the bigger bucks in the championship then you probably need to go with gambling. Doubt there's that much money in any sponsorship deals at this level.

My guess would be that it could be down to the fact that we can generate more income off 2 individual sponsors than just the one.

e.g. If you could only get a max of £1m a year off one sponsor, you may find 2 sponsors who can afford £750k and are happy to be featured only at home/away games.

We’ve had it before with Lanway sponsoring the home kit and Vodka Kick sponsoring the away. When we played away in the home shirt it had Vodka Kick on it.

VK on the away strip would be a clever bit of marketing now that we have Vinny but surely it's a non starter because they'll view alcohol the same as gambling won't they?

I really hope that is not the shirt, it’s bloody awful. Looks like an attempt to recreate the Mitre/Ribero shirt, that in turn copied Norwich’s kit of the time.

Messy and blue is not Burnley’s traditional baby blue
I’d agree - not overly impressed on the blue and the kit as whole on first look. We did have the Ribero shirt a season before Norwich though.

That’s really my point - they should be getting a sponsor sorted earlier. I get that we were at threat of relegation, but that just means you have to plan for either scenario and price it accordingly.
Commercial agreements take time.

We didn't know what league we were going to be in and we didn't have a manager in either. I can't imagine either will have helped but I'm sure whilst you may get some kind of 'letter of intent' from sponsors based on criteria of league etc, it then still takes time to get the formality and legals sorted I would imagine and the parties won't start getting into the details of the contract until our destiny was known properly - maybe there are people more in the know than me on this.

When I look at the other relegated clubs

Norwich - No change in sponsor but I can see articles from 23rd June this year confirming that the contract had been extended so that may give an indication of time it takes even when you are dealing with a renewal of an existing sponsor which now want different terms of relegation.

Watford launched their kit 1st July - again with the same sponsorship attached to the shirt.

This makes me think that whilst we are probably a few weeks away from launching ours perhaps if the shirts have only just come in then its only a few weeks difference and it sounds like we have negotiated 2 new sponsors aswell.

Bound to make it more difficult but Classic Football Shirts. I’d love to know how much that is worth in comparison to, for example, Utilita with Huddersfield.

Just had a quick scan at new kits to see which others don’t have betting companies. Seems to be an increasing number moving away from betting companies. I wonder how much less (assuming it is) teams are now getting.

Birmingham - Impact
Rovers - Totally Wicked
Blackpool - also Utilita
Bristol City - Huboo
Cardiff - Malasysia Berjaya (owner ties presumably)
Hull City - Corendon
Millwall - Huski
Norwich - Lotus
QPR - Convivia
Rotherham - IPM Group
Swansea - Westacres
West Brom - Ideal

Exactly - not overjoyed but did it. I expect they would’ve taken another if the commercials were right. But as clarethomer points out, maybe they’ve managed to get those to work by having different on home & away.

As an aside, I’m always disappointed when it’s not THG. With Matthew Moulding being a local lad I always hope he’ll sponsor us. They have so many brands they can use the various parts of the shirt to advertise MyProtien would look great on the shirts and they have various beauty brands they could put on the womens kits. Oh well, there’s always next year!

I understand that, but surely you have a whole year to be dealing with that and lining the next one up?

In the context of Norwich & Watfords release dates, 2-3 weeks later (assuming they release this week, that is), perhaps isn’t too bad under the circumstances but that just illustrates why we need to be signing sponsors on multi-year deals like them. Or just getting the next one organised in good time if that’s not our strategy.

Im not a contract expert but what I experience in my world (not football sponsorship) is that legal agreements between 2 commercial entities can take time to get across the line.

The work on the contracts probably would take place well in advance - agree a broad intent to do business and then as discussion progress you start to define the scope and detail of the agreements/commercials etc. Its not just about money but there will be clauses in there about protecting reputation and non payment of agreed sums etc and what happens.

I can't imagine that the club would go to the expense of writing up several contracts trying to account for all events. They will start this when they know where they are playing the following season. Now if you are mathematically safe in Feb for example, then it gives confidence that things can start sooner but you may face the 'what if we go up' question then and we may want to look for different sponsors as the current one isn't able to meet the increase in costs to do this.

As I say I can imagine its not a simple thing to do and there will be lots of considerations to why things don't get done sooner.

The other relegated clubs have had the kits on order since end of June/start of July and they had the benefit of an existing relationship and contract that probably was easier to amend/revise in the main.

I would imagine the club will have a media day to arrange where they will be getting their photos in kits done etc. It will be after this where they can then advertise the kits and start selling them I would imagine.

I can only imagine that media day is probably likely to take place in the next week and then time for editing and all marketing to be done before putting live.

I wonder if it’s released tomorrow and worn at Shrewsbury?
