I think England's women football owes a huge debt of gratitude to the manager. When you compare her to previous managers, she is a colossus. So calm, assured, straightforward, winner.

Thank you Sarina Wiegman.

Anyway, well done the Lionesse. You have made most of us proud and you are a credit to your sport and our country.

Winning this tournament is great news for my little girl growing up who will now be afforded more opportunities to make a career out of it if she so wishes. Hopefully she will, her mum played a bit when she was younger but chances of joining an academy were slim as there just wasn't much visibility of women's football then.
She was on the physio team at Rovers ladies whilst Toone, Stanway and Walsh were there and left just as the club started to try to slowly professionalise everything from backroom staff to players.

Buzzing for them, my daughter started playing about 12 months ago and there’s so many local young girls teams, I’ve watched loads over the last 12 months and I leave games so proud of how much they enjoy it and smile.

Certainly changed my view having made derogatory comments myself ‘for the laugh’ over the years.

England men wouldn’t have won that comp. Wouldn’t have had the belief and the guile to break Spain down. They would’ve accepted the defeat with a “oh well, very nearly again and it was only 0-1 and they are a good side blah blah blah”

The womens manager gave them a clear plan and they stuck to it. Everyone had a job, all the subs included, everyone played in their position, no square pegs in round holes and they got exactly what they deserved.

Massive, MASSIVE well done for living your dreams girls and for restoring a little pride.

The difference between the men and the women......The men are overpaid, full of egos, all about image. The women play with freedom and have a coach that encourages their natural talents and instincts.

So the likes of Trippier don't care about playing for England?

Or Pope isn't bothered either?

Are you sure? i'd have England men beating Spain women a minimum of 10 - 0.
However, it's brilliant that our women have won their tournament. fantastic achievement.

His point was that many players representing England would play for themselves and not the team.

Well done girls, finally breaking a 56 year hoodoo.

And they did it the hard way, coming from behind late on eventually beat a good Spanish team in ET, and responding today after Germany equalised.

This should provide a huge boost to women's football in England, and now it's up to the FA to ensure this legacy isn't squandered.

Not decrying their achievement in any way, but both England's major tournament victories have happened on home soil.

A right niggly bits and bats game was that, but they plugged away and showed great character.

I loved that they clearly haven't been media trained like the boring fellas.

Great result. The weather in London today was horrible, really hot and humid. I was sweating walking to the pub to watch the match, playing 120 minutes must have been exhausting.

While it can't quite match mens football, womens football has come a long way. It doesn't match the skills of men's football but it has many great attributes and an honesty about it. Englands first goal was pure class from the pass, the run onto it and the chip to score. Well done ladies.

Just think where women playing football would be if the men hadn't grabbed themselves 50 years start. Great game by the Lionesses. It got a bit physical at times. Proud to be an England fan.

It's not trying to emulate men's football though, and inevitably it'll be slower, it is improving rapidly though, and this tournament has seen some great goals.

Agree that in general the behaviour is much better, and there's less gamesmanship in the female game which is refreshing to witness, and long may that continue to be the case.

Yes it's incredible now to realise that women were effectively banned from playing any official matches for 5 decades.

And for all the talk about the large crowds, women were attracting similar if not larger crowds during the inter war years, before the FA stepped in and stopped all this progress.

To be fair, the Dick, Kerr Ladies v. St Helen's had one crowd of 50,000 plus, one of 30,000 plus. Who knows what it might have become, but it hadn't yet become a big regular draw, and there were very few teams drew any sort of crowd at all.

The women were allowed to play on non-league grounds which were plenty big enough for all but Dick, Kerr.

Whether it would have grown to become as big as the men's game, we can never know, but it was a long way from being as big as the men's game at the time they were banned from league grounds.

The Lionesses have put a smile on everyone's face again.
If only the mens team could follow their lead in this years WC in Quatar.

Can't be denied English football is in a right good place ATM, women's Euro champions, men's Euro finalists, U19 Euro champions.

I don't think we've ever enjoyed such a sustained level of success in so many formats, and the signs are that it might well be just the start, as both the men's and women's senior squads are packed with young talent, that will be around for several tournaments yet.
