There are definitely some in our support who have lost their heads

I would say at a guess Tippy Tappy in our own 18 yard box will lose us 5 goals this season .
So one and counting .

How many will it gain us?

Plenty of comments near me, not booing.

We have to accept that our goalkeeper is going to give goals away when he is passing from our six yard box.

Proper centre half required. Taylor is not a centre half. Need him back at left back.

Barnes is no answer up front.

Its not just a case of how many it will gain us but also how many more goals would we concede if we gave the ball back to the opposition more cheaply.

this is not aimed at the poster you are having a conversation but if it gained us 250 goals and we conceded 10 because of it we would still have people moaning

Agreed, it's a risk and reward scenario.

For us:-

Risk is losing possession and obviously the worst case scenario is conceding.

Reward is encouraging the press, spinning the ball around their players and leading to a dangerous attack.

Risk yesterday was the first goal - Reward was the brilliant incisive pattern of play early in the second half which ended up with Maatsen pulling his very good opportunity wide.

For the opposition:-

Reward is winning possession or forcing us to give the ball back to them, especially if we are forced to punt it long.

Risk is three or four of their players getting bypassed with a couple of passes, leading to them chasing and being out of position.

We've tried to press City for years, mostly at home. They either pass around our forwards or just chip the ball either wide or into midfield and start from there, we have never got to grips with them. We have to look at making the pitch as big as possible to give Muric more options.

Our biggest failing so far is when in possession is we play extra passes than are really required and the weight of the pass is not hard enough, both of these are safety first options from two or three players who don't seem as comfortable as some of the others.

We have to make sure going forwards that the rewards outweigh the risks and that we are willing to tweak our plans for teams based on how they play rather than blindly sticking to a rigid plan. As fans we have to accept that occasionally there will be situations like Saturday but we can't react as a fanbase like we did at the weekend.

I think our biggest issue has been the slow pace at which we have played, hopefully that'll speed up with a few wins and some confidence - nothing will ever move quicker than the ball

Firstly I take issue with the concept that it is older fans who can’t grasp the new Burnley way. I’ve always wanted a team of footballers playing football and working hard, making angles to play around the opposition. We are making regular
improvements and will continue to do so. However progress will come quicker with some positive support from attending fans. I’m in the Bob Lord and the loudest critic was a mid twenties women who knew her game and was very enthusiastic but lacked patience, which I understood. She wasn’t the only example of younger fans around me who were very critical and loud so I would take issue with the ‘age thing’.
I think VK has to release the back line players of having to start every attack short from the back. My eyes tell me that we have great success in pressing high, so it isn’t that important if an occasional long ball leaves the ball in our opponents half as we recover the ball well by pressing the opposition. So occasionally we should have the confidence to defend further from our goal area. I do prefer Muric looking further from goal. His long passing of 20 yards or more has been very successful.

People are acting like we've not just watched a Dyche team kick the ball aimlessly back to the opposition and leak goals.

I have nothing against the way we are playing, I'm actually enjoying it but what I do have an issue with is the manager who at 3-1 up doesn't take the opposition seriously.
With the substitutions he made you would have thought we were playing a pre season friendly , were where the defenders?

The only defender available on the bench was Egan-Riley, but my biggest issue with VK is why he persists playing Charlie as a CB, he's simply not up to the physical task playing there poses.

Thankfully Maatsen's suspension will mean Charlie reverts to his natural LB berth, although who partners THB in the centre is a good question, McNally would seem the logical choice, but whether through injury, or the manager not deeming him ready he's only featured fleetingly thus far.

Like you I'm enjoying our more progressive style of play, but there's a time to shut games down, and make sure you see out the result, Saturday being a prime example.
