A lot of merit in your suggestion.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 4:55 pmDo you not think it would benefit everyone if they brought in some sort of "allowed number of replays" ? ie, they are allowed 2 slow motion and 2 full speed replays to determine a clear and obvious ? Unless the sun is shining on the screen (then move the screen!) he should have clocked that on the first replay

I don't like VAR either but to criticise VAR while pointing to a correct VAR decision (the benefit of VAR) just doesn't make any logical sense.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:04 pmI don't like VAR whether it makes the right decision after another ref in a dark room has checked 10 replays or not. I liked football when VAR didn't interfere and sanitise the game.
I'll put the rude and unnecessary simpleton comment down to you coming down from your high of being right on the internet over Mitrovic. We've all got to get our moments of satisfaction from somewhere, I suppose.

I think they need to scrap VAR, just bring in the very best foreign referees. I think these referees are poor, some of them biased towards certain clubs. Almost all ex referees after they retire come out in interviews and talk about how they were biased towards certain teams based on certain factors. It's not even just bias towards the big clubs, human nature makes it hard to be objective and forget previous encounters. If I was a referee and the Preston team/fans were overly rude and aggressive towards me, the next time I'd referee a PNE game, I'd find it difficult to be neutral.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 4:55 pmDo you not think it would benefit everyone if they brought in some sort of "allowed number of replays" ? ie, they are allowed 2 slow motion and 2 full speed replays to determine a clear and obvious ? Re: Today's footie 4/9
you would think VAR would help with that with the refs being hidden away but after looking at the Chelsea West Ham decision you have to question it. As mentioned earlier, Howard Webb has an almighty mess to fixKRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:12 pmI think they need to scrap VAR, just bring in the very best foreign referees. I'd prefer a number of challenges allowed per manager/team ....say 2 per half.....after that it's up to the Ref.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 4:55 pmDo you not think it would benefit everyone if they brought in some sort of "allowed number of replays" ? ie, they are allowed 2 slow motion and 2 full speed replays to determine a clear and obvious ? Re: Today's footie 4/9
I'm not pointing to a correct VAR decision. It could have gone either way. Eriken was weak as p1ss, didn't protect the ball properly when opening his body out with a man on him. Sure, there was some contact, but it's a contact sport. Neither the ref nor liner spotted anything majorly wrong in real time.
It wasn't clear and obvious to some but was to others. There's a big issue there, if you think about it.

Could be 1-1 unless there was something wrong somewhere in the build up
If it is 1-1, it’s been coming
If it is 1-1, it’s been coming

that's the kind of breakaway goal I think we will score once we click properly

Utd suddenly on a roll, funny how quickly this game can change, and they've beaten Arsenal and Liverpool during that 4 game winning streak.

We let West Brom of the hook, we had plenty of chances to kill the game off on the breakVegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 6:06 pmthat's the kind of breakaway goal I think we will score once we click properly

Re: Today's footie 4/9
indeed, we were a Churlinov stumble away from winning. It'll come. There wont be a single team in this division that wouldn't be happy with a point at the Hawthorns and that's important to rememberTop Claret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 6:30 pmWe let West Brom of the hook, we had plenty of chances to kill the game off on the break

Brighton and Potter seem to be very similar to Bournemouth when Howe was doing very well with them.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 4:20 pmthey also seem to have bought loads in (I've lost count) of players that haven't made the grade and have moved on - did they make profit on any of those lads ? I've no idea just asking btw
Everyone said Bournemouth were the benchmark we should follow. Yet that went wrong.
What people don't realise is that Brighton like Bournemouth have a very wealthy owner and they have been able to make mistakes with signings far easier than we can. Losing Weghorst for a pittance hits us far harder than it would either of those two clubs.
Also, like Bournemouth, it'll eventually go stale for Potter as it did for Howe and similarly at Leicester despite a FA Cup win.
The only manager to ever avoid that scenario to date is Fergie at Man U.

Re: Today's footie 4/9
Yes both Bournemouth and Brighton enjoy the benefit of having a wealthy owner to fall back on, but although we can't totally replicate what they've done or are doing, we can certainly take aspects of what they've done well, i.e. buying relatively cheap and selling at a profit, not easy to continue doing year after year, but that has to be our strategy, as we're unlikely to remain a regular PL club, probably the best we can hope for is to become a yo-yo club similar to the likes of Norwich and Watford.Spijed wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 7:27 amBrighton and Potter seem to be very similar to Bournemouth when Howe was doing very well with them.

Recruitment will be key I agree, and this is where we have to trust in VK to come up with the goods more often than not, will every signing come up trumps, no of course they won't, but if he moulds even a couple to make large profits on, that'll stand us in good stead to reinvest.
Regarding managers who've avoided going stale I'd nominate Wenger, sure Arsenal dipped slightly during his later years, but they still came top 4, and won cups.
