Apparently Sarah Millican’s show is still going ahead.

Don’t really understand the need for mass cancellations of live events. As just seen at Old Trafford really easy for people to be respectful. Unless they are going to shut down all businesses for the next ten days.

It's like the worst of both worlds - all the football gets postponed, but we still get to go to work.
At least the pubs will be open.
Wake me up when its all over.

I think the utility companies should also postpone any charges if I’ve got to stop living for this too

It is unbelievable, you're quite right.
If people want to stay at home for weeks sighing and moping (after work, obvs), that's up to them. It ought to be a choice though, I agree with you.

Not a monarchist myself but I think that occasionally we all have to take a step back and accept the solemnity of events such as the one that has happened today.I enjoy my sport, especially watching my football team but games will eventually be played. However, at this moment I believe that cancelling such events is the 'right thing to do'. Respectful and decent.

So what are you bitching about then ? Apart from being a disrespectful cowardly turd ? . Were you expecting a paid day off ? A weeks ? sporting fixtures cancelled isn’t costing you anything . It’s the “ biggest” world passing of anyone since Victoria. Is a bit of extra free time on match day too much to “give to “ a woman who gave a lifetime of pristine service .

No need for name calling. I don't agree with the principle of cancelling all leisure upon her passing. We share different opinions, that's all.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 8:19 pmSo what are you bitching about then ? Apart from being a disrespectful cowardly turd ? . isn't this all written in state law as procedure ? Not sure anyone can complain about it, not like they weren't aware.

Whatever the decision, the Premier League and the EFL need to be making an announcement quickly, and certainly tonight.
Cricket and Racing have already announced their decision, why not football?

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
You suggested that it’s insensitive to want this weekend’s football fixtures to go ahead, unless football is the only meaningful thing in one’s life. What you said just doesn’t make sense, nothing pedantic about it. Unless you think that anyone who wants Burnley’s game to go ahead tomorrow is either insensitive or has nothing else meaningful in their lives? And what meaningful yet sensitive things would you suggest people to do with their time in place of watching said football?roperclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 8:44 pmHi Mr Pedant. Only the funeral day.
The phrase remains, the Queen is dead. Long live the King. Life continues.
MOD: Thread locked for the usual reasons: posters bickering, making insensitive remarks and using inappropriate language to one another. It completely spoils the board.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
FFS this cancelling everything with no notice is ridiculous just disrupts peoples lives. Why can’t people pay their respects on the day of the funeral or in their own way. Cancel pubs and shut public parks because they are fun and people will laugh there.
Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
I suppose, as someone pointed out, there may be the complexities of European games during the week that need to be rearranged as well. That'll involve every country in Europe. That's assuming midweek matches are postponed.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 8:47 pmWhatever the decision, the Premier League and the EFL need to be making an announcement quickly, and certainly tonight.
