Think we need 3 in midfield. Getting bypassed every time. We look like we’re playing 4-2-4 at times. Foster off for Brownhill and Bruun Larson on for Kolo. It’s alright having 4 people up top but when there’s no build up play to get the ball into them it’s pointless

Need to up the tempo so they can't set themselves. We are doing to much passing around looking for an opening. It worked against lesser players but it's hard to find gaps playing at that pace against these players.

Agree, think the shape has just been totally off it and Kompany's got that half very wrong. Been totally schooled by Emery.
I think that’s a fair commentary.

I will also say that villa have looked incredible today.

The premier league is not the same league it was since we were last here. There’s 10-12 teams that are really really good

Just said the same to a mate… Prem quality has stepped up another level or two. This Villa side are waaaaay better than the ones we faced last time.

Get Foster and Koleosho off, and Redmond and Brownhill on. It won’t change this from being a loss but it might prevent our GD getting worse.

Too many inexperienced kids in this line up against a well oiled machine and it’s shown. The desire for a team of almost exclusively sub 24’s to do well in this league is naive I think. There is a reason it’s almost never seen, even by the best of sides. We look a level or two below Villa, if we’re being brutally honest.

Muric will be back next match and either Charlie will play LB or we'll sign someone this week.

I know Villa have looked very good, but a big part of that is how easily they have been able to play through us. We were far more resolute against City.

Ironically at 0-2 down ,I think we have done ok.
Very impressed with Foster, fast and strong, definitely looks a premier league player.
For me , we are a man down in midfield, and as such I am with holding judgement on Berge, but I really dont think we have been that bad and 2-0 flatters Villa

We’ll play much worse sides than Villa, plus we’ll get better. No need for panic, I think it’s gonna be a great season. I’m seeing plenty of potential.

Yep, I am sitting in a bar with some villa fans and they are saying this is the best villa team they have had in years.

VK has got his work cut out, the quality across the league is looking really strong.

I still believe a draw is possible here but it will take a moment of magic to turn the tide.

Excluding Roberts, our keeper and other 3 defenders have about 10 league games for Burnley combined so we're always gonna be a bit vulnerable at the back.

We've lost 3 big players from last season as they were on loan and have brought in a lot of young new players. In previous seasons we've been critical of other clubs for this sort of approach (Fulham, Villa, Forest) so whilst its been a hell of an exciting summer from a recruitment perspective we're gonna need some patience as it could take a bit to gel.

Again, taking off our striker isn’t going to help us peg them back from 0-2 down. I’d personally take off Koleosho for brownhill and Ramsey on for Berge or Cullen. play foster left side and push Amdouni forward given he offers no defensive protection as number 10.

Makes it harder to watch knowing Sheff Utd are doing a better job taming City at home than we did even with their basket case of a club off the pitch.

Berge getting a yellow in midfield where there was no danger from anyone whatsoever...needs to manage his game a lot better.

Too much change in team and formation for me, I wouldn’t argue against a midfield 3 of cork brownhill and cork next game and play a 4-5 1.

I know some people don't like Brownhill but he gives us some energy in midfield and is very good at closing down and tackling. He also gets in good positions in the opposition box.

Very frustrating

Sloppy defending
Sloppy use of the ball
Releasing the ball at the wrong times
And allowing the ball through the middle on the press far too easily
Plus not playing proper full backs cost us 2 goals
And both our CMs are on yellows

We have been ok
Against City, that's fine
But if we concede such easy goals without an attacking threat against teams like Villa, then you wonder how we will beat teams like Fulham, Palace, Forest. And we need to win some of those games

Next goal is crucial

Berge isn’t a sitting midfielder - any Sheff United fan would tell you he’s best as a roaming 8

So why buy him and stick him in as a sitting midfielder?

Why are we getting away from what we did last season? Have 0 natural width

Really crap this and VK needs to sort it out

This 3 at the back in possession is allowing villa to get it wide when they nick it off us and they’re absolutely destroying us down the flanks.

A proper schooling so far.

Their defence have been together a while and they were defensive in a lot of games last season. We have a pretty new defence and a new goalkeeper for them to get used to.

Agree with this. Don’t seem to have that incisive break in us at the moment. When we’re passing it around we look decent but in reality they’re letting us have the ball because they’re in good shape, so waiting to pick us off. Villa have been very good. We need to move it quicker, but overall been very happy with our play.

Villa are a great team and I had no hopes for a win. Disappointed in how we conceded but no complaints in the scoreline. Hope we can keep it tighter second half.

Need to sub one of Cullen & Berge now they’re both on yellows.

from my angle, they were breaking quickly and that is a good place to stop it before they get away. A good yellow to take.

I appreciate your point but I do believe you’re being slightly harsh.

I don’t think it’s been really crap just an mis match in formation. I’m sure VK will address and the draw is on the cards ;)

3 at the back is killing us, last season with our fullback options it opened up either Beyer or THB to bomb forward which offered a lot more dynamic play from us. We can't do that now, and our distribution from the back is poorer for it.

We need some fullbacks in or we're going to have a tough time.

A lot of people on here were saying Vinny doesn’t see JBG as a winger. He clearly does. Of all the wingers we’ve bought he’s the first to be brought on out wide.
