Reckon I’ve figured it out, he signed for Bristol City on 5th August, they’d already played a game (the day before) by that point, so technically it’s not the ‘entire season’!
According to the EFL Handbook:
‘Home Grown Player’ shall mean a Player who irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with:-
34.9.1 his current Club; and/or 34.9.2 a Club and/or any other football club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales,
for a period, continuous or not of three Seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21). For the purposes of this definition of Home Grown Player only, a Season will be deemed to commence for all Clubs on the same date as the date on which the Summer Transfer Window in that Season closes for Clubs in Leagues One and Two, and expire on the date of the final League Match of the Season.
So by that logic he's had three seasons before the age of 21 and should qualify.

Thanks, nice extra digging. I wonder why it calls out League One and Two clubs and not Championship, where it mentions the summer transfer window? And then I question why the PL didn’t have him as homegrown last season.

Probably just an oversight. In the PL you only need 8 home grown players in the entire squad (not the matchday squad) which we easily met without Massengo so I guess there was no need to start looking at him.

Kinell, I'd give my left one to be aging like Roberts! 28 years old and the lads got one foot in the grave
I am not overly fussed as to the first 11 In the opening games, there's a lot of players who have a justifiable claim to be in the mix but the main thing I just wanna see are square pegs in square holes.
Did not know he was only 2 months older than Brownhill at 28! Thought he was well into his 30's!
Solid grafter but never had any blistering pace, unless Parker just wants us to setup with a solid flat 4. Vitihno would generally be my preference at RB if not injured.

SP is spoilt for choice with his 1st line up in the Championship. If I have got this right, the home grown player rule is a minimum of seven players from a 20 man squad. Last season in the Prem, our list of home-grown players were Josh Brownhill, Jack Cork, Josh Cullen, Arijanet Muric, Michael Obafemi, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Connor Roberts, Jay Rodriguez, Charlie Taylor and Scott Twine. So six remaining from that list then.
The keeper, back four and centre mid pairing were the easier ones to start with in my starting line up.
I would like JBG in there, with Zaroury and Koleosho on the wings.
Foster gets the nod for me ahead of Amdouni and Hountondji.
As for the bench, I would expect that SP would fill this up with a couple of players from the U21's to fulfill our home grown player quota.
Hladky
Roberts - O'Shea - Esteve - Pires
Cullen - Brownhill
Luca - JBG - Zaroury
Foster

Presuming the likes of Amdouni , Zaroury , Esteve etc haven’t attracted much interest ? Or certainly not a better salary package than they’re already on . I know for a fact Steve’s agent has been touting him round like a cheap brass but no idea about the others . All 3 should be cracking champ players though .

Will be interesting to see who plays full back.
I'm assuming Trafford and Berge are still not available?
Will O'shea start?
