I think someone has pointed out already but for me Foster looks best when he's picking balls up and carrying it at pace from deep or off the shoulder. Pompey sitting deep and getting deeper so for me you'd be better getting J Rod on in the last 15 and getting it in the mixer.

The feed showed Hannibal was none too pleased at being taken off, although he may have been frustrated with himself.
i think he was just annoyed at the game and the way it was going more than anything.

Foster will score goals if given the service.

He's not a striker that's going to have intricate link play. Needs to form a partnership with Flemming.
I think we'd all agree with you on that. SP seems to like 4-2-3-1 but TBH I'd rather see 4-4-2. Don't care if it's frowned upon.

Either or mate, play Flemming in the hole or a bit further forward... they're basically the same formation anyway - just can't start with a midfielder there at home against a team we expect to beat.

Totally. He basically needs to be facing the opposition goal when he collects the ball as much as possible.

It was 71 minutes when it was stopped so that is at least 5 minutes extra, which probably won't happen.

That may be the case but I don't think he's shown anything yet to suggest it.

His touch, composure and positioning to date need a fair bit of improvement. Hopefully a settled team, tactics and coaching will help with that

Koleosho’s final ball has been poor on a number of occasions today.

Failing to beat the first man.

We are making it so easy for Pompey. All we do is try to go down the wings, absolutely nothing central at all.
Pompey's tactics are to hold the wings, slow it down and get a level line back. They don't even have a striker on, just set up for the draw.

I miss the Beyer runs down the middle where he covered half the pitch and everyone ran a mile. It's absolutely what you need in the Championship

If we'd shifted the ball with the same intensity and got about them in the same way from the get go we'd be about 4-1 up

FFS Foster. It's just wrong decision after wrong decision. The man is in space play him in.

Do footballers not look further than half the pitch. Koleosho has been all on his own more than once and we have played it sideways or backwards.

Never used this term on here, but hope the "bed wetters" calm down a bit when we aren't 1-0 up after 20 mins.

Good learning curve for the team.

Well it was a bit ridiculous wasn't it? Seen all sorts of crap come through today and we ended up winning it.

It's still a new team and there's scope for growth.

It's also really to see who has a clue about football when we play teams that sit in.

Foster is isolated and is getting doubled up on all the time - what he needs is clever players playing between the lines to give the defence questions to answer - then the space will open up for him.

Koleosho needs to do more and prove that he isn't just a one-trick pony... we need creativity from our wide players, not just direct running.
Foster can do no wrong in some people’s eyes, it’s everyone else’s fault he lacks technical ability. Yet he’s dropping deep to collect the ball like he’s the next David Silva.

Forgot how little control refs have at this level. Painful from Webb. Important win for us as we still look a bit off being fluid.

Awful, disjointed first half and deserved to be behind.

Second half Pompey stuck to their tactics and knew we were going back and sideways every attack. We made it easy for them to defend, and they did defend well credit to them.

Our winning goal came from the middle which is pretty telling.

Overall I'll take the win but my god that was hard to watch at times, Foster is such an enigma and you just don't know which player is going to turn up on the day.

Feel very sorry for Pompey fans, that's a long journey back and I think they deserved a point at least from their efforts

We won but Parker can’t be happy with with 90% of the game. Ref was clueless and Portsmouth were difficult to play against. Time wasting came back to bite em. Overall a horrible game with a great result
