Re: Cult/strange films
The Night Porter is worth a mention, and it certainly comes under the cult/strange category.

One by One Rik Mayall's last film.
It is not easy to find this film. Very low budget and some of the acting isn't great. I think the budget was only about £25,000 but Rik really wanted to do the film. He died shortly after making it.

From Dusk till Dawn (1986).
Starring:
Harvey Keitel
Juliette Lewis
George Clooney
Quentin Tarantino
An average crime thriller goes mental when they cross the Mexican border.

I tried to remember the title of this film when the thread was new but couldn't. It's come to me. I saw it on a long-haul flight. I think it's brilliant: Deadfall [2012].

Looked at this a few days ago. It is exactly as you said but I didn't find it interesting or funny - boring in fact. It reminded me of a longer version of a Monty Python sketch:Dressinggown wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 10:50 amBad Taste.
Peter Jackson has now become an industry leader in the film business with Lord of the Rings etc.
His first attempts at producing a film included the above which took about 2 years to raise the £20,000 to complete.
It's a Gorefest comedy shot in New Zealand and one of the few films that I have ever laughed so much watching.
Definitely one of those if you've had a few beers !

I don't think Jacques Tati has been mentioned. He only made about seven films but they all have his peculiar way of filming, all visuals and sounds but little relevant dialogue.
The most famous is probably 'Monsieur Hulot's Holiday', the best 'Mon Oncle' and 'Playtime' and 'Trafic' get an honourable mention:

Re: Cult/strange films
Might have had a mention but the original Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel is grim but excellent film . Not to be confused with the entertaining but ludicrously OTT “ re-hash” with Nicolas Cage .

I'm Your Man. On FilmFour recently. A woman has a robot designed especially based on her desires and has to live with it for three weeks as a project. Of course she is cold at first but then warms to it and finally........... A gentle romantic comedy really but a bit odd of course.
