I totally agree with thatburnmark wrote:I really do think it’ll be a big blow if he leaves- he’s our best keeper by a mile.
I partially agree with it. He would be a big loss as he has been fantastic for us. However IF Pope continues from where he was pre injury then Heaton is certainly not miles better and I'm not even sure he's the better keeper.ClaretTony wrote:I totally agree with that
We will all have opinions on this, and we will choose one or the other, but I think Tom is technically the best of all our goalkeepers.Goobs wrote:I partially agree with it. Utter rubbish. Tom has been consistently excellent since he arrived.Quickenthetempo wrote:I don't think Tom Heaton has ever got to the level Pope did in 17/18 over the the long period but we can't be sure if Pope will get back to it.
You are right definitely a split of opinions over all three of them. I agree with Heaton being technically better than the other two (just) but Pope has a big advantage over him that you can't train and that's size which helps with his shot stopping and aerial ability.ClaretTony wrote:We will all have opinions on this, and we will choose one or the other, but I think Tom is technically the best of all our goalkeepers.
Those two points are not mutually exclusive. You are right but IMO so is QTT.fidelcastro wrote:Utter rubbish. Tom has been consistently excellent since he arrived.
He really isn't.Goobs wrote:Those two points are not mutually exclusive. You are right but IMO so is QTT.

Vids a bit low quality but im 99% sure thats him on the left
The 7th place finish might act as a fact to back up our opinions.fidelcastro wrote:He really isn't.

Agree about the leader & role model but don't think Heaton is technically better as they have different techniques, particularly when diving across goal. Pope dives with his legs together making his body parallel to the ground, like an Olympic diver, similar technique to Pickford. Heaton has his legs more open, similar to Hart, often going with one hand to stretch his reach. Pope has also got slimmer hips & longer legs which seems to give him quicker feet, so he makes more saves with his feet, as does De Gea & to some extent, Pickford.Goobs wrote:You are right definitely a split of opinions over all three of them. Would be gutted to lose either if one does go but the one thing Heaton has that would have me wanting to keep him most is the proven track record of being a fantastic performer, leader and role model.
Sentiment is why we're all here, isn't it?Down_Rover wrote:No room for sentiment in this game
Sorry, but Defour is a terrible shout for captain.lakesider wrote:Interesting opinions around the respective skills of each goalkeeper but I think Vegas claret has nailed it. Our fortunes turned when Tom came back, not only because of his goalkeeping prowess but because we got our captain back on the field.Massive confidence boost all around including the defence. If we lose him who do you think should pick up the role? Ben is a bit too quiet on the field for my liking. Based on the scant knowledge of a supporter I would look at Bardsley, Ashley or even Defour if he can stay fit.
Mee would seem the obvious choice to me - failing that, Westwood.lakesider wrote:Yes, was scraping the barrel a bit there. Problem still remains though if Tom goes.........
That might appeal to him. A reason for staying?northernpowerhouse wrote:Surely Tarks for captain if he stays?
I’m sure Ben Mee would love that.northernpowerhouse wrote:Surely Tarks for captain if he stays?
As he captained us from Sep- season end and we finished 7th it didn’t affect him that much.Longside4evr wrote:It effected Ben when he was handed the captaincy after the event of Heatons injury
It seem to put unwanted pressure on him
Defour was captain at Standard Liege at 19 when they won the title. (Although a captain who plays may be more useful.)Erasmus wrote:I seem to recall that Westwood was made captain of Crewe when he was still very young, perhaps even a teenager.

Apart from maybe centre mid our squad looks pretty well balanced to me.Reecey1987 wrote:Boden ppsted this earlier .SD looking to add further signings after Pieters and Jay Rod: "We've corrected the balance in terms of who's left and who we've brought in, and now we're looking to see if we can strengthen further, or make us more flexible
It ain't a maybe. Also we have too many 1 st choice keepers and for his career Wells needs to move on. Can see Vydra wanting to go as well. If so we need a young fast striker.jrgbfc wrote:Apart from maybe centre mid our squad looks pretty well balanced to me.
That’s one hell of a transfer strategy.randomclaret2 wrote:What we need to do if at all possible is look for better players than we already have.
