Re: Today's Games
He should be booking the Spaniards for simulation at every touch
Re: Today's Games
It was probably a red card in the modern day football where everything is a foul, it's incredibly soft but that is football in 2021. unfortunately

Dreadful decision. Although not surprising with Oliver.
He’s been poor for a number of years now.

Re: Today's Games
It's about interpretation and application of the laws of the game, not understanding or lack of. It's not hard to see how so many people think Oliver got it wrong. Refs regularly get things wrong.

Re: Today's Games
But Lampard’s wasn’t a goal, because a goal wasn’t awarded, despite the evidence conclusively proving that it should have been. Anyway, it’s totally besides the point.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:19 pmthat's like saying Frank Lampards goal that wasn't given wasn't a goal because it wasn't given - clear refereeing error and we've just seen another today from a **** poor ref

Re: Today's Games
Why not issue a yellow to get the word from VAR to have a second look and give himself time to view a replay?

Re: Today's Games
Because that’s not what the VAR is for. If referees started erring on the side of caution and not giving decisions so that they can be verified by the VAR then they would be rightly criticised. The VAR is there to correct clear and obvious errors which this wasn’t. Likewise if Oliver had booked the Swiss player then I’m pretty sure the VAR wouldn’t have intervened as the decision was a marginal call.duncandisorderly wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:23 pmWhy not issue a yellow to get the word from VAR to have a second look and give himself time to view a replay?

How many would seferovic have netted if he was playing up front for Spain?

Re: Today's Games
Fair enough, and you are correct. I just think that given the 50/50 call and the quarter finalness that the ref could have used that safety net and stood by his decision or change his mind to issue a red.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:26 pmBecause that’s not what the VAR is for. Lee Dixon said it wasn’t a red card.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:14 pmYeah, the guy is pretty useless. But I’m being told that I’m wrong that it was a red card when the referee, VAR and ex-professional say it was a red card. People have already demonstrated on here that they don’t understand the laws of the game, so as much as I’d love Switzerland to win, I am not letting that bias cloud my understanding of the laws.

Exactly this which is why Oliver is a complete knob - quarter final of a major championship, probably the only time the lad will ever get to one and he uses no common sense or decency whatsoever
Re: Today's Games
I agree Rilybobs, it was a red for me too, it was reckless. However had it been given as a yellow, I don’t think I’d be calling for a red, I hope you know what I meanRileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:14 pmYeah, the guy is pretty useless. Despite him saying ‘that’s a nasty one’ on live commentary when it happened. Either way I respect his opinion but disagree with him.

Re: Today's Games
Vegas, come on. You don’t let players off because it’s the only time the lad will make a quarter final. That’s just ridiculous. Oliver thought it was a red so showed one.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:33 pmthe decision was a marginal call

I really dislike Sergio Busquets so I'm happy about that.
Re: Today's Games
I agree with Riley. Pretty clear red under the current laws.

ridiculous because it's never ever worthy of a red card. Not arguing the toss over it (agree to disagree sir

1 Oliver getting it wrong
2 Kavanagh not prepared to challenge it
3 Walton just being a complete nonsense

Re: Today's Games
Absolutely Tony and why the PL VAR is in a mess
Re: Today's Games
Can you or Riley actually tell us why you think it's a red? I certainly didn't see it as reckless, watch the replay back and it's clear the player has control (as he moves his feet at the end of the challenge to connect with the ball) and it certainly wasn't a lunge or even aimed at a player.
Re: Today's Games
If you have both feet off the ground you aren’t in control and therefore it’s reckless. I wouldn’t have complained at a yellow thoughConroy92 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:57 pmCan you or Riley actually tell us why you think it's a red? Re: Today's Games
I haven't seen it, but was it more or less red than the one from the other night in the Ukraine game?
