I hate the weekend after Internationals. Usually some strange results.

Brighton v Leicester
Watford v Bournemouth
Everton v Man City
Palace v Liverpool
Man Utd v Swansea
Arsenal v Stoke

And of course...West Ham v Southampton

Lots of points to be knocked off should the results go for us... UTC
It's easy to forget sometimes, that the best way for points to be knocked off, is for us to win at West Brom, then all the other 19 Clubs have three points deducted..... :D

Us winning at West Brom would be a strange result historically!

As we have 2 teams on or below zero I'm going to shift my attention to further up the league. Everton Leicester and Arsenal looking at their remaining fixtures and what our chances are of finishing 6th 7th or 8th.

Everton (32).....13
Liverpool H
Swansea A
Newcastle H
Huddersfield A
Southampton H
West Ham A
With them playing Liverpool that should bring their magic number down to 10 meaning 3 wins and a draw for the clarets would secure 8th

Leicester (31).....19
Newcastle H
Burnley A
Southampton H
Palace A
West Ham H
Tottenham A
Arsenal H
The match against us looks to be the decider who'll finish 7th although 2 tough fixtures against Arsenal and Spurs look like the matches that they are least likely to win matches against Southampton palace and West Ham are by no means given as they are all fighting for survival at the bottom.

Arsenal (31).....27
Southampton H
Newcastle A
West Ham H
Man Utd A
Burnley H
Huddersfield A
Leicester A
With tough away matches at Leicester Man Utd and Newcastle could see their magic number drop to 18 which would mean 6 wins for the clarets 5 if we beat them at their place.

What a time to be a claret!!!

Looking at those fixtures I think Leicester will pick up 12 more points and us 9 more leaving us level !

I think Leicester will pip us to the post, attention should shift to Arsenal though who might drop points.

If that is the case their GD is likely to be superior given they will get 3 more points from either an extra win of three draws.
All depends on the result when we play them I suppose.

We aren't safe yet! It would take a pretty odd set of results, starting with Southampton, Crystal Palace and Swansea all beating Man City, but it could still be done!

We have seven matches left
Watford A
Leicester H
Chelsea H
Stoke A
Brighton H
Arsenal A
Bournemouth H

A draw or win against Leicester and 3 more wins should see us in 7th.

I see 12 points in our remaining games - including 3 v Leicester which should see us secure 7th.

Wins v Bournemouth, Stoke and Leicester; draws v Watford, Chelsea and Brighton

Already guaranteed a worse case scenario 16th place finish, according to Magic Numbers..... Huddersfield, Palace and Stoke joined WBA in negative figures today with Southampton probably set to join them tomorrow....

But if we beat Leicester it drops to 7 or with a draw it drops to 10 with 5 games remaining. Sadly Leicester usually manage to spoil our party !!

Not when I was a lad. We usually put 6 past them even though Banks was their keeper.

Saturday is huge with regards to finishing 7th. Win the game and I can't see us getting caught. They have got recent history of spoiling the party as FCBurnley said, but this year must be our turn?!! Wood to net the winner please.

Not g'teed for Europe just yet, though Arsenal dropping 3 points today gives Clarets a chance to finish 6th - so we don't need to worry about Soton and the FA Cup.

I assume that's what you mean by "are we safe?"

UTC

PS: Technically Leicester, Everton and Newcastle can still finish above us. Everton play Newcastle on 23rd, so that's 3 points one of them can't get.

European qualification is in our own hands. If we beat Arsenal and equal their points total in the other 4 remaining games we will be 6th.

I was just having a laugh - you know how most Burnley fans are always pessimistic (Remember "we won't win again all season"?)
I have got my sights set on Chelsea now, nevermind Arsenal.

If we do finish 6th there is a scenario where we wouldn’t qualify - if Arsenal win the Europa Cup and Southampton win the FA Cup. Then it would be top 4 + Arsenal for Champions League, and 5th place and Southampton for the Europa League making up our maximum contingent for European football.

On a slightly different note, I've just noticed that after 33 games, we have more points now than at the same stage in our first two Premier League seasons combined (24 in 2009/10, 26 in 2014/15).

Still can't get over what a season this has been!

Everton..........-1.....2
Newcastle.......-4.....1

A win tomorrow should see us secure 7th. Hopefully we can snatch 6th and get into the Europa group stages. ( did I really just type that!!!)

If we beat Arsenal and Bournemouth, Arsenal will need at least one point from Leicester and Udders away.
It is possible, we can do this. We'll know next Sunday.
A demoralising defeat in Madrid might help our cause as could the pomp and ceremony surrounding Wenger's departure.
Fingers crossed.

Dead right, Vince. Thanks for your efforts. It felt really strange having achieved our primary target so relatively early this season and not having to worry about endless permutations in the last three or four games.
We have permutations even now, of course, but nobody's worrying !

If we can get to the last game level on points with Arsenal it'll be a nice exciting finish.

They've not won away in 2018 in the league.

Beat Arsenal
...-6....7
Arsenal lose to Leicester
...-3....4
We beat Bournemouth
...-3....1
Arsenal draw with Huddersfield
...-2....-1
Should we beat Arsenal and Bournemouth, Arsenal will need to win one of their remaining matches .

Arsenal played 35, 57 points GD = 19.
BFC played 36, 54 points GD = 3.

When we beat Arsenal it will read
Arsenal played 36, 57 points GD = 19 - x
BFC played 37, 57 points GD = 19 + x

We beat Bournemouth, we're on 60 points, the Gooners will need one win from their games v Leicester and Udders. Two draws will only take them to 59 points.
Yay.

Arsenal haven't picked up a point away from home in 2018.
