That just about sums it up but, unfortunately, as you say the entrenched feelings of hatred will only grow on the back of events like this. It will take ‘the bigger man’ to start the move towards peace but by doing so will lose support of the popular vote for showing weakness towards their enemy. A lot more lives will be wasted before a solution is found but antagonising the IDF is not the way forward.

If only the IDF would allow the red cross to ship in surplus coffee and brown sugar into the West Bank then things would be just fine

You should be a peace envoy to the Middle East if that’s all you can come up with. Having said that, it’s more than that c*nt Blair ever managed.

You might find the following of interest:

"This was intended to be a brief guide to the current maelstrom in the Middle East....

My purpose in writing it was to provide you with a general background, so that any new information you learn would make sense, and that you would realize the stakes involved. I tried to say things that most analysts won't, but that are vital to understanding who the main actors are, what they're doing, and why....

It's easier for the stronger side to make the first move/concessions/ in any dispute like this.

The Oslo Accords failure to go far enough for Palestinians led to the rise of Hamas and consequent escalation of the violence. The PLO were not perceived by many Palestinians to have effectively negotiated for them, and enough of them moved more extreme to bring Hamas into the equation. On the other side of the coin, the Israelis took such a hard line in negotiations with the PLO that anyone would have been hard pressed to get a better deal. You could say that in driving a very hard bargain with (and therefore undermining) the PLO, the Israelis contributed toward making some Palestinians more extreme.

This is where we are, but a one state solution isn't at all impossible. Yes there's hate, and fear on both sides, however the majority of Palestinians and Israelis don't live their lives governed by these emotions, and a genuine and fair peace initiative by the Israelis would undermine Palestinian extremists, and perhaps reverse the last few decades. It's about taking the first step, and having a fair plan for a future together.

There are a lot of people in Britain who have assaulted people of ethnic minority simply because of the perception that they're 'taking over' the country. Imagine the level of hate had an ethnic group actually moved here and physically driven people from their towns and taken over. That would begin to imagine the experience of the Palestinians.

Its always possible for all issues to be sorted out (see Northern Ireland) but it requires enough people on both sides to want it.

Anyone think Hamas want it? Or Nethanayu?

And lets not forget, both sides are the elected representatives (even though Hamas clearly are big fans of Putinocracy)

The majority of both sides in Gaza and Israel don't want this to change sadly.
