Without extras England would be 69/7 (As of 5-10 mins ago). Shambles.

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
With all of the aggro and backchat dished out by players on both sides I reckon a few match fines will be handed out at the end.
Makes an Ashes match seem docile in comparison.
If Anderson has to come out and bat tonight watch from behind the sofa.

Has been a good effort from Extras to score more than Sibley, Burns, Hameed, Bairstow, Moeen and Curran combined. Every cloud and all that.

A tragic performance after doing so well to get ourselves into a position where it was impossible to lose.

" Abject " does not really do today's England performance justice.

120 all out, 29 scored by extras. God help us against the Aussies.

All out - lost by 151 runs. Shocking display today, all day.

In my young days there was little to cheer about between the Ashes win in 71 and the emergence of Botham. It felt like England had hit a real low, but my god couldn’t we be doing with Dennis Amiss, Mike Denness, John Edrich, Keith Fletcher now!

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
This team is a long way off. The openers aren’t upto it, Sam Curran the golden boy who makes things happen has stopped making things happen, Buttlers technique is shot and the captain is clueless but luckily a good bat
Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
After 3 very strong days back to back, to play like they did today is shambolic. We thought we had won it when we got Pant out.
Serious question marks over the mentality and leadership of that team.

Outplayed and outthought by a team of resilient believers. Our lot, an utter shambles, starting from putting them into bat on day one. Of England’s starting eleven only two of them deserve a place, Root and Jimmy; the rest are simply not good enough.

Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. A disaster,

Not even beer match standard
Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
Would have lost the first test too but the weather saved us. We are simply nowhere near India’s standard and level. Another 5-0 ashes inbound to add to a series defeat here.

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
England got suckered in this morning to bowling loads of short stuff at tail lenders instead of trying to take wickets.
Beaten by an Indian team that didn't play a first choice spinner.

Tactically totally inept Sunday league captains in the lancs league have more grasp of tactics

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
Just caught up with the result. what the hack happened today. at the start of play I'd have made England marginal favourites to win.
However letting their 9th wicket pair add 89 unbroken was bad enough, but as for that batting display there's absolutely no excuses.
In India it was the pitches to blame, well there's nowt wrong with this pitch, as the 3 innings prior to England's 2nd demonstrate.
4 ducks in the innings, and it could have been worse as India spilled 3 catches, but in the end they had more than enough for that not to matter.
There's no disgrace losing to this fine Indian team, however there is a disgrace in constantly getting bowled out for next to nothing.
And you still have to question Root's decision to bowl first, what it have made a difference though given how poorly England played, and if he'd batted 1st as many including myself thought he should have done, then England could have easily been skittled out on day 1.
The Ashes doesn't bear thinking about, England are going to be thrashed out there, and unless Australia bat first up, I can see a few 3 day test matches this winter, yes England really are that bad these days.
And it's only Root's decent form that's papered over the cracks on several occasions, and even 2nd innings he once again top-scored.
Where England go after this I have no idea, and Chris Silverwood may just have realised the size of the task he's taken on now.

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
As usual, the batting is shite. Any side with a half decent bowling attack will trouble england.
And as usual England are shite playing at Lords. Give the place a miss sometimes. The pitch isn't even flat.
For ***** sake we must have a few players with a good defensive technique.
And for what it is worth, the ashes is as dull as the old firm game. Played too often against a side who's main tactic is to try and hit the batman's head rather than the wicket. Give me West indies away any day.

I’m not sure they’ll be bowling many at the heads.
Just outside off stump on a constant basis will ensure a few days off for them.

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
That's certainly true, but to be honest, today it was an inept bowling display that opened up the possibility of a big Indian victory.
We really should have been chasing no more than about 180 once Pant was out. Not excusing an abject batting display, but it must have been pretty demoralising for our weak batting line-up suddenly having to bat to try to salvage a draw out of the wreckage.
Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
If Root couldn't work it out surely Jimmy with all his experience should have had a word in his ear? Or did he lose his head as well after receiving some short stuff on Saturday evening?

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
The team went to pot around 12.15pm Monday.
Too much sledging, not enough thoughtful cricket.
They were all at it, Buttler, Wood, Root, Robinson, Anderson etc. Bumrah averaged 3 before yesterday, bowl at him with slips and a normal attacking field, with so many boundary riders no hope - pathetic, headless cricket by the whole team.

Re: England v India 2nd test (Lords)
With the plethora of analysts and coaches employed by the ECB these days it beggars belief that a message was not sent on to the field once it was clear the England bowlers had lost their heads. They have more than enough drinks breaks.
Perhaps it was and it was ignored?

Does anyone know whether the most successful captains have been batsmen or bowlers?
