Re: Next manager
The Brighton betting has flipped suddenly with Potter being a strong favourite for a while now dropping down the odds into 3rd place
Re: Next manager
Has anyone seen Alan?
Last reports were he was on a train at Kings Cross en route for meeting Frank Lampard.
That trail seems to have gone a bit cold.

That’s the last I got told, the conflicting reports that Lampard was at crow wood, pace actually went to London to meet him.
Also Pace was actually that shocked about kompany leaving that him and the board really don’t know what direction to go down
Re: Next manager
Looking back on this thread, it's a week since it seemed that Lampard was the runaway favourite.
In just over three weeks (usually the start of July) the players return for pre-season training, friendlies and tours.
Hopefully the board will have appointed someone before the month is out.

Re: Next manager
Problem is bar us getting Moyes, Cooper or Corberon (which all seem unrealistic/ not going to happen) all the names mentioned are risky appointments.
I’ve got to admit I’m more anxious than excited about who we get. Lampard, Parker, Bellamy, Jackson, Pardew are names which have been linked which fill me with dread. As does the thought of Henry or Viera who fans have linked.

I agree, Potter seems a highly intelligent coach, plays the right way had a very good record at Brighton and then struggled a bit at the Chelsea basket case (but then again, everyone does). Would be extremely happy with Potter.blatherwickstattoos wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 9:13 pmIf we managed to get potter that would be a serious bit of business

Re: Next manager
Honestly whoever we appoint, we’ve no idea how the are going to do. We are not going to attract a manager with a proven history of winning things. So really I couldn’t care less if it’s Bellamy, Lampard, Parker, OGS, RVN or any of the candidates. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating.

I think those three are very much plan B and we are waiting on more (and better) names to become available once the Leicester and Brighton positions are filled.

Re: Next manager
If Nixon is right, it's not an inspiring trio.
Lampard, doesn't seem a Burnley 'fit' but I do believe he connected really well with Everton fans other than results. Always seems to slightly under-achieve if you're objectively looking at his managerial career. Doubt he'd be a complete failure, but if I was a betting man I'd not be putting my house on automatic promotion.
Parker, another that just doesn't seem a Burnley 'fit'. In Parker's case I think you can make an argument that he'd have a good chance of repeating VK's promotion, but also a good chance of failing miserably in the PL.
Bellamy, could be great, could be awful. Pace should have an idea of how much he influenced the promotion season and how much he influenced the relegation season. If the rumours are true that things turned a bit sour between him and VK last season that may be down to his frustration with how we set up last season. The bullying allegations are concerning, but then they have been for the last 2 seasons.

Re: Next manager
Managers have usually been leaders on the pitch and in the dressing room. Pep, VK, SD whoever you wish to name have all been leaders in different ways.
Quite a few never made it as players so it's hard to say but most were of the Sam Allardyce and Graeme Souness mould - teams captains and leaders on the pitch.
I'm trying to think of spiky contraversial characters who were largely outsiders and rubbed people up the wrong way as footballers who went on the become successful managers but I can't think of too many.
Conte and Zidane were spiky players and difficult characters but both were immense on the pitch...! Craig Bellamy was a good player but never showed any leadership qualities as far as I can see. But clearly, those within the club are closer than I.

Re: Next manager
I don’t know if it’s because Lampard seems the option but the more I think about it the more the idea doesn’t seem that bad, all depending on what back room staff he has.
The derby team, yes it had tomori, mount and Wilson but they where all young and playing the first full season in the championship so I think playoffs was about right for that team
First season at Chelsea he did very well under the circumstances. Second season at Chelsea I’m not convinced Lampard wanted most of the signings
Everton were all over the shop but he didn’t show the tactical experience and that’s the only question mark, his tactics

Re: Next manager
These allegations of Bellamy and bullying.
Are these allegations from the past? Or whilst at Burnley? Steve Stone, and Woan had allegations of bullying as well?
I can’t help feel, in this day and age, that a “Telling off” or “Pull ya finger out “
May easily result in a bullying accusation.
Not suggesting that Bellamy’s past has not been disgraceful

I recall speaking to Lee Hoos a week after Dyche had been appointed. He'd been actively involved in that recruitment but told us there were a couple of very interesting candidates at the time who weren't quite ready. I remember his line when he told us: "You always have to be looking for your next manager."
Worryingly, we didn't seem to have a plan when Dyche left and that was a Pace decision, so might be concerning when a manager has walked out on them.

Re: Next manager
I have said on this thread and on another thread that it’s one of the issues with the board that the looks the be no succession planning, I genuinely don’t think Pace saw kompany leaving and has been left shocked with it. Which makes the comments about kompany being the most beautiful girl and wondering how long he can keep him even stranger. If Pace rated kompany so high then he surely didn’t see him being at Burnley long term and there should have been a plan of managers in place. To me the list of names being heavily linked looked rushed together with no real plan.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 10:36 amIf that was the case, which it can't be, then we would be unbelievably unprofessional.

Lampard - big name with contacts
Parker - two promotions another relatively big name in England
Bellamy - knows the club
Again for me the lack of actual football knowledge at the top of our club is worrying

I’d prefer an older more experienced manager but being horrified about a manager with 2 championship promotions or another who’s got to a champions league final and finished 4 in the premier league is the most Burnley Fan reaction I’ve ever known

If it is to be Bellamy, i'd want an old head behind/alongside him, as well as Jackson. Brian Flynn would be too old now, most likely, but someone with the necessary gravitas to ensure that Bellamy would listen to them, and they would be worth listening to, would be an improvement on our previous management team's relative inexperience across the board.
