Wood gone now, a 5 wicket haul for Boland on debut, 5-5 ridiculous figures.
65-8 and I doubt the Aussies will have to bat again.
Embarrassing doesn't do it justice.

Remember this is after a team meeting where they talked about their shortcomings and wanted to put them behind them
I'd say it is a shambolic...but words can't describe this. Folding like a pack of cards.
The whole team besides Root and Anderson need sacking off.

And the duck record is broken. 6 wickets for 5 runs. 65/9. I genuinely have no words for this team anymore.

One of whom is not the best of captains and the other will be 40 next summer. Our best two players by a country mile.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 12:43 am

65-9 6 for Boland.
Even by England's standards this has been a mad collapse.

This quite simply has to be the worst test innings I have ever seen. Christ on a bike they only needed 82 to make them bat again and are going to fall well short of that. You have to laugh or you will cry.

England have scored less in a test innings, but in the context of the match this has been a meek surrender.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 12:46 amThis quite simply has to be the worst test innings I have ever seen. And take Root's 28 out and it would have been even worse.
If this isn't a wake-up call to the ECB then nothing will rouse them.

I've just logged in to say I've been enjoying tiger76's positivity, optimism and confidence during today's play, hoping that we could somehow engineer a victory. Well done, mate, you've kept me interested in this shambolic performance. I might as well stay up now to see Jimmy get his first test hundred
In the real world words fail me about the state of of our test team set up.
All over as I type, good night one and all.

An innings and 14 runs. Covid dependant I’d be sending 10 of them home and drafting 10 replacements in. That is single-handedly the worst England test innings I have ever seen.

I wonder what excuses Joe has now...
Same thing every time "I believe in the players to turn it around"
Maybe a humble "we've been rubbish and some of us aren't good enough" would be better

Jimmy out 68 AO.
Root's post match interview should make interesting listening. Especially given his words prior to the game.

Indeed. There have been worst scores but the complete lack of backbone is apparent. Root the only one to hold his head high..but only just. They genuinely look scared of Australia. Not sure where the ECB go from here but massive changes needed in some way.
253/20 puts it into context.

When this series started I did think we were likely to lose it but not like this. Words fail me after today’s play which is as bad as anything I’ve seen.

I think there will be a few cases of players being ‘unselectable’ or mid series retirements after this. The bad thing is the options we have out there as fringe players just aren’t good enough other than Foakes for Buttler.

That 2nd innings, with the opportunity the bowlers had giving us. Just embarrassing.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 12:58 amWhen this series started I did think we were likely to lose it but not like this. Words fail me after today’s play which is as bad as anything I’ve seen.

Re: 3rd Ashes Test - Australia v England - MCG
All the talk we heard was the Ashes is a marathon not a sprint. Harmison etc were bang on saying it is a sprint because you can lose the Ashes in 11 days of cricket and here we are. The Aussies must be embarrassed at how easy this is.
Re: 3rd Ashes Test - Australia v England - MCG
I would just stick a load of youngsters in now and try and get them ready for the next ashes…forget whoever else we have to play between now and then, just use that as giving them experience

Re: 3rd Ashes Test - Australia v England - MCG
Who though??
We don't have any decent openers.
Root is great, but has NEVER scored a century in Australia.
Pope, Stokes, Buttler, Bairstow... none of them set the world alight.
Malan was OK.
I have no major issues with the bowlers, although we are lacking a reliable spinner. But I don't see who can change this batting unit's failures...

A pathetic effort, they should be embarrassed.
Losing by an innings as they have done in this test match is an utter disgrace.
Silverwood and Root should both offer to step down with immediate effect.
They are as soft as ****, no backbone, no fight, no application just a absolute shower from top to bottom.

This test is the one that really irks me, Australia played in 2nd gear, yet still won by an innings.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:01 amAll the talk we heard was the Ashes is a marathon not a sprint. It's the batting where the real problems lie, and how we solve those I haven't a clue.

I’ve just had to put Facebook on hold. The amount of abuse I’m getting is unreal. Aussies are a disgrace in defeat, but they’re effing worse in victory.

On another positive note, had Australia batted first, that 68 all out would have been enough to avoid the follow on

Root’s interview there just sums it up “we’ve had good pockets”……no Joe, it’s been an utter shambles! Just say what you see, admit it’s terrible and maybe we can start to move forward.

You think they couldn't get more embarrassing, and they prove you wrong again.
So many issues, but first and foremost is Silverwood has to go, and now.

I didn’t expect him to blast his team mates but what he said was pathetic. Yes, we bowled well yesterday but it’s hard finding other pockets from this shambles.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:19 amRoot’s interview there just sums it up “we’ve had good pockets”……no Joe, it’s been an utter shambles! He’s our best player, the others need a rocket and as their skipper he should be the man to deliver it.
It’s all too nice, referring to the head coach as “Spoons” etc, it’s pathetic.
Professional sports people are accountable if they underperform and shouldn’t be afraid of being told be it publicly or behind closed doors.
We’ve lost a series without even making it to the half way point. They should be ashamed.

But to be fair to Root. No batsman as stayed with him. He’s always had to try and hold up his end. Never been able to play a flowing game in Australia. He's always had one hand tied behind his back.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:04 am

I know some of the shots he was out to were terrible. But probably out of boredom.
