January transfer window rumours.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Huge credit to the club for pulling this signing off, really hope he lives up to the potential with us. Also for the marketing/media team with yet another brilliant announcement video, hugely entertaining and creative yet again, giving the club a lot of good publicity and helping boost our profile here and internationally. Look at the comments below the video if you haven't already and how many views / reach they've achieved.. These are exciting times on and off the pitch, so much energy and positivity - we need to enjoy it while it lasts and long may it continue.

Barely believe the stuff going on at our club at the minute. Absolutely brilliant isn’t it.
Never seen him, had never heard of him up until a fortnight ago - but it’s Kompany’s man so I’m excited.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I would love us to sign a midfielder to round things off, but if we can’t get the one we want at the moment (Bosnian) we may well well wait until the summer. We’ve clearly got enough to get over the line right now.
Hopefully in the summer it will be a matter of adding four of five quality players in key positions after the excellent business already done this season.

The name is a bit out of the blue, especially for the amount of money paid for him, but in fairness neither were Azoury or Benson. I can only therefore assume thst he must have something about him for the manager to be so keen to get him.

I sense VK is a great networker and has reliable friends in Belgium, in particular, giving him regular reports and updates. He is certainly earning his salary
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think that might just be why we’re looking at making these signings now. It’s a called a long term strategy, or something.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 7:05 pmYou don't want much when it's pretty much home & hosed regarding promotion.

It's commendable but a very risky strategy, promotion is in the bag regardless so in terms of effectiveness judgement can be reserved, I'm a great believer in the phrase the proof is in the pudding.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
The big thing I see happening in the summer is new contracts being handed out to the likes of Zaroury and Benson, seems we are now in the business of handing out 4 and half year contracts, so can see us trying to tie doen the successes we have had on even longer term deals to try to maximise our profits when we sell them in the future

Spot on, I sometimes feel it’s a bit lost on certain sections of the fanbase which is understandable. But nobody can say it isn’t excellent for the club.BigJay wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 6:52 pmHuge credit to the club for pulling this signing off, really hope he lives up to the potential with us. Re: January transfer window rumours.
I doubt we will sign anyone else now in this fantastic January window, but already we have a bench stronger than several Premier League clubs. For example, I saw Newcastle’s bench last night in the cup and I reckon ours is stronger, player for player. Our last few benches have virtually been as strong as our first team. That makes it an incredible 2 windows, and that is without the last two signings featuring.
So I’m more than happy with where we are and happy if the window slams shut.

The stuff in the press suggests Konyaspor want to sell, not sure what deal will be required but it could be something we revisit if the lad has given an indication that he'd want to move to England.

I’d really like to see Barnes stick around but would be understandable letting him go if we sign Obafemi.

Can never have enough pacey players in your squad.
And lots of bench options. Think I’m right you’re allowed 9 in the prem?

His time is up - I’d rather see him leave at the end of the season though. He deserves a proper send off.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 10:07 pmI’d really like to see Barnes stick around but would be understandable letting him go if we sign Obafemi.
If he does go, it’s fitting that pretty much his last hurrah was a proper old school Barnes display in the biggest game of the season.

I’d be gutted if Ash left before the end of the season. Too many players who have been a huge part of what’s been achieved in the last decade have left without a proper goodbye. It’d be great to see Barnes see out his contract and give him a fitting send off, hopefully lifting a trophy on the same day.

If rumours are true championship clubs enquired about him, I'd hate to have to play against him this season, it just wouldn't be right seeing Ash line up against us.martin_p wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 10:13 pmI’d be gutted if Ash left before the end of the season. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Any deal for Barnes to leave would be similar to Lowton’s in that he would move on loan until the summer. Hence he wouldn’t play against us.
The club are also looking at sending Dervisoglu back to Brentford but he cannot play for a third side in Europe this year due to FIFA rules about not playing for more than 2 sides in one season. This however does not apply to the MLS and so that is being explored. If not he will likely stay for the rest of the season.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Twitter has talk of Konyaspor upper the asking price of Amir Hadziahmetovic from €5M to €6M, this has apparently come from beIN Sports.
Our offer has been reported as €2.8M upfront with €1.2M in add ons.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
How things have changed for Barnes. After his difficult first half at Sunderland there were calls on here for him never to play for us again, even suggesting he couldn’t play in the Kompany system.martin_p wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 10:13 pmI’d be gutted if Ash left before the end of the season. Brilliant to see him back in form and disproving that theory. Yes, his time with us is coming to an end but he’s been a fantastic signing and is playing well.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Barnes has looked as mobile as I’ve seen him the last couple of games. Maybe not having to chase lost causes has sharpened him up a bit.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I said last season I'd keep Barnes and let Rodriguez go, Barnes was really poor at the start of the season but recently has deserved to be ahead of Rodriguez for me. I also think Barnes has proven to be a much bigger threat in the PL than Rodriguez in a Burnley shirt.
I'd sign Barnes as 3rd choice for another year (behind Foster and Obafemi) providing he was happy with that role. He's just a different option to anything else and when fit and firing will always have something to offer.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Interesting news re. Obafemi. I personally think £3m is a bargain for him. I can see some similarities in how Tella plays for us and how Obafemi would fit in. When you think Saints could ask for north of 10m in the summer, it makes sense to get Oba now for 3m.

How many has he scored this season so far then? I love Ash's antics as much as the next man, but his time has passed. He can still fight but he isn't a top striker. I'd support keeping him till the end of the season though so he can have a proper send off.KRBFC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:15 amI said last season I'd keep Barnes and let Rodriguez go, Barnes was really poor at the start of the season but recently has deserved to be ahead of Rodriguez for me. Re: January transfer window rumours.
He looked well off the pace and was rightfully hooked at half time. That performance must’ve been the kick up the arse for him that he needed, because in his next appearance he looked sharp and fitter than ever. Then he followed that up by scoring twice against “them lot”.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:12 amHow things have changed for Barnes. A lot of fans thought they had seen the last of Bashley at Sunderland - and probably on his performance - rightly so, but credit to Barnes (and Kompany) for turning it round.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Also, it is very good business signing the players we need in the prem now. If / when we go up, those same players will cost us more than double just because of the league we are in.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I'd keep Barnes around, if only to play him at Ewood. He 'gets it'.
For the relatively small financial commitment to see him through to the end of the season, he's more than worth keeping around the squad to get us over the line, particularly with Jay not firing lately.

If we sign Obafemi does this mean that Halil Dervisoglu will be going back to Brentford? Even if we don't sign another player surely he's going to struggle to get on the bench.

As posted earlier on this page.
He can't play for any other club having played for us and Brentford.
He might be better off at Brentford if Toney gets suspended though.
